James Alex Fields Jr. — the man who rammed his car through a crowd of protesters at a 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Virginia — was sentenced Friday.

He’d pleaded guilty in March to hate crimes — the execution of which took the life of 32-year-old Heather Heyer.

The killer apologized to the judge before being condemned to life in prison.

He’ll be sentenced again in July on separate charges.

As a reminder, the Charlottesville protest was over removal of a Robert E. Lee statue.

What is it about humanity that brings crowds together in such an impassioned twist-up that results in fights and death…over a fake version of a person who’s been dead almost 150 years?

And how does one person decide it mandates murder?

Heather Heyer lost her life over such a melee. Now James will spend the rest of his behind bars.

For a reminder of where we are — and what can happen — watch the raw footage below. But beware: violence and language.

The video may not showcase the daily engagement of most Americans, but consider, if you will, the entanglement of our words. The ugliness online. The political war. The attack of contemporary narcissism on our better selves. The rage against the values that made America great.

Humankind is broken (see here).

I believe we need much more…of things found herehere, here, and here.
