Chicago’s Democratic Mayor has an interesting way of interpreting things.

On Monday night, Lori Lightfoot blamed the violence in her city — not on evil, cultural regression, family disintegration, religious decline, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, video games, or the city’s Democratic leadership and policies. Nope — It’s all ‘causa them there Republicans.

She wasn’t playing around — Lori told Texas Sen. Ted Cruz to “keep [Chicago’s] name out of [his] mouth.”

Geez.

The mayor also posted a chart indicating 60% of guns come from outside the state:

“60% of illegal firearms recovered in Chicago come from outside IL—mostly from states dominated by coward Republicans like you who refuse to enact commonsense gun legislation. Keep our name out of your mouth.”

Okay…so if Republicans are responsible for the majority of her city’s violence because they occupy leadership roles in states from which Chicago’s criminals get 6 out of 10 of their guns…

Then is she also admitting that Democrats are squarely responsible for 40% of Chi-town’s murders?

Here’s her tweet, which — it should be noted — was in response to Ted’s use of the city as an example of gun control’s inadequacy:

In case you were wondering — the Chicago Tribune lays out some of the Windy City’s gun laws:

City residents can own firearms but with several conditions: You must be 21 years old and possess a firearm owner’s identification (FOID) card and concealed carry license, both issued by Illinois State Police.

Prior to getting a concealed carry license, residents must complete a 16-hour training course, which includes a gun range test that residents must pass, as well as coursework on gun safety. They are also subject to a background check and must pay a $150 application fee. Applicants may be denied a concealed carry license, or have law enforcement agencies object to their applications, if they have particular criminal convictions.

Those who keep guns in the home must hold only a valid FOID card. Gun owners who carry a firearm outside the home must have an FOID and a concealed carry permit.

Over the weekend, seven people were shot to death and 53 were injured by gunfire in Chicago.

The city hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931.
