Trump Smushes Jim Acosta and CNN Like a Fake News Fly

Sometimes a swatter hits a fly.

And sometimes, that fly-finishing flexible flapper is being held by Donald Trump. And it’s Jim Acosta that’s buggin’ him.

March 30th was a Musca domestica Monday at the White House, so during a COVID-19 press briefing…BAM.

Jim asked what, perhaps to him, was an objective-reporter kind of question:

“What do you say to Americans who are upset with you over the way you downplayed this crisis over the last several months?”

Jim Acosta, neutral newsman — at your service.

Jim took a stab at quoting the President. And quoted the President to take a stab:

“‘We have it very much under control in this country.’ ‘The coronavirus is very much under control in the USA. It’s going to disappear. It’s like a miracle. It will disappear.’”

Plus more:

“March 4th: ‘We have a very small number of people in this country infected.’ March 10th: ‘We’re prepared. We’re doing a great job with it. It will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.’”

Well, none of those statements are untrue — or were, when they were made. The question, of course, concerns when it will disappear. And how un-little it will become before it does.

Back to the buzz:

“What do you say to Americans who feel you got this wrong?”

Trump tightened his grip.

Swat:

“It will go away, and I do want them to stay calm, and we are doing a great job. If you look at those individual statements, they’re all true. Stay calm. It will go away. You know it is going away, and it will go away, and we’re gonna have a great victory.”

Splat:

“And it’s people like you and CNN that say things like that — that, it’s why people just don’t want to listen to CNN anymore. You could ask a normal question.”

Don’t hold your breath, POTUS.

Trump went on to thank those who’ve worked so hard and to champion America as the victor over our infecting foe:

“The statements I made are, I wanna keep the country calm. I don’t want panic in the country. I could cause panic much better than even you — I could…make you look like a minor-league player. But you know what? I don’t wanna do that. I wanna have our country be calm and strong and fight and win. And it will go away. And it is incredible, the job that all of these people are doing — putting them all together, the job that they’re doing. I am very proud of the job they’re doing, that Mike Pence is doing, that the task force has done, that Honeywell, and Procter & Gamble, and Mike and all of these people have done. I’m very proud;. It’s almost a miracle — and it is — the way it’s all come together.”

Squish:

“And instead of asking a nasty, snarky question like that, you should ask a real question. And other than that. I’m gonna go to somebody else.”

The battle continues. Not between the country and COVID-19; I’m talking about the President of the United States and a certain winged wonder.

Surely there’s more to come — as we indeed are “calm and strong and fight and win.”

We will.

And as we show the virus who’s boss, may God help us all.

And May He Bless America.
