Is it punk rock to be a Democrat?

It seems to me that over the past several years, much has been made of not being politically correct. In the realm of comedy, for example, the last couple decades have seen select standups marketed as not caring what anyone thinks. PC? Who needs it.

Curiously, onstage, they were…PC.

To be clear, so far as I can tell, “political correctness” is just another word for “left-wing.”

If I’m right, then rock and roll has appeared all but dead. Even in realms once associated with rebellion, many have long toed a Blue line.

But today, I offer you a bit of punk rock — courtesy of an Original Gangsta.

If you’re familiar with the Sex Pistols, you know they’re considered one of the most groundbreaking groups in popular music history.

In the 70’s, the British band’s hit “God Save the Queen” became a symbol of political and social turmoil.

And at least one Pistol is still firing away.

You wanna shake things up in 2020? Legendary punk frontman Johnny Rotten knows how — just support Donald Trump.

To be clear, I’m talking about this guy:

Is that the look of the Red state? It is for a guy named John Lydon, who holds three citizenships — British, Irish, and American.

Speaking to the BBC recently, he confirmed he’s “definitely” casting his ballot for Washington’s bad boy:

“Yes, of course, I’m voting for Trump.”

The way Mr. Rotten sees it, the Democratic ticket stinks. And The Donald’s his own man:

“He’s an individual thinker, I’ll give him that for a start. He’s not the most lovable fellow on God’s earth, but I cannot see the opposition as offering me anything by way of a solution.”

Furthermore, Johnny asserted the Commander-in-Chief “really is making the country a bit better.”

And don’t get Johnny wrong — he’s his own person, too. In fact, he voted for Barack. Hillary, too.

But, he explained to The Guardian, New York’s most eccentric billionaire won him over — thanks to apt work on the economy.

Voting Trump is the only sane move:

“I’d be daft as a brush not to. He’s the only sensible choice now that Biden is up – he’s incapable of being the man at the helm.”

Of course, the Sex Pistol’s left some triggered:

From Newsweek’s article, “John Lydon’s Trump Support Leaves Sex Pistols Fans Feeling Rotten“:

Johnny Rotten aka John Lydon has been open about his support for Trump and Brexit for some time now—but fans of the Sex Pistols and the former punk legend are still disappointed.
Lydon, 64, has long been associated with anarchist views and he’s managed to get people talking again.

A tweet showing the “God Save the Queen” singer wearing a pro-Donald Trump “Make America Great Again” T-shirt has gone viral on Twitter this week…

One tweeter posted of punishing disappointment:

“10 year old me is absolutely gutted that this is what his hero turned into. John Lydon, about as punk as a game of golf. Big f*****g poser.”

Johnny’s been accused of worse things over the years, and any and all may or may not be true.

But just in terms of rebellion in our current climate, you wanna see rock and roll? If you’ve forgotten what it looks like, here it is — circa 2018:

And he’s not the only one:

Welcome to the new punk rock.
