Trump Candid About Xi, Putin, and Threat to U.S. in Tucker Carlson Interview

Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson sat down with former President and 2024 presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday evening at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The interview was a wide-ranging one that touched on Trump’s current legal battles, foreign policy, and even if he thinks President Joe Biden is running for reelection.

Trump talked about his recent indictment on over 30 counts of falsifying business records relating to alleged “hush money” payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump told Carlson that he believes the American people know that the Department of Justice is being weaponized. He went on to say that because of that, any Republican who would receive a subpoena should resign because “they’re not going to survive it because they are weaponizing the system and there has never been anything like it.” Later in the interview, Carlson correctly summed up Trump’s legal situation saying, “So they’re trying to prevent you from making it to the general election by tying you up in lawsuits, charging you with crimes..”

Trump’s foreign policy chops were on full display. Prior to that portion of the interview, even Carlson himself seemed impressed and had possibly had a change of heart about Trump’s view of current global events saying, “His grasp on foreign policy, this man who is supposedly stupid, his understanding of world affairs is so much more nuanced, and sophisticated, and pro-American than the moronic neocons currently in charge.”

Donald Trump spoke about the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan and the abandoning of the Bagram Air Base. He stated that he had planned on keeping the base up and running, but not for the Afghans, but because “it is an hour away from where China makes its nuclear weapons” — something the Biden administration either was completely unaware of, or ignored completely. Trump also commented that because the United States left $85 billion worth of arms and equipment behind, Afghanistan is now one of the largest arms dealers in the world, thanks to Joe Biden.

Perhaps one of the things that stood out most in the interview was that Donald Trump fully recognizes that while America’s chief adversaries are indeed bad actors, they are also very smart, and should not be underestimated. He describes Chinese President Xi Jinping as “top-of-the-line smart, he is a brilliant man.” He describes North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un the same way. He says that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “very smart,” and asked a question not often heard. “Biden is so committed to Ukraine, what happens if it is a not winnable war?” He said that Russia is currently making massive amounts of ammunition. “We’ve given all our ammunition to Ukraine. We are not prepared to fight.”

Tucker Carlson then turned to the 2024 presidential election. He asked Trump if Joe Biden will stay in the race. Trump, while answering the question, probably showed more grace than if Joe Biden was asked about Donald Trump’s mental state. It was not what he said, but what he didn’t say that was the most interesting. “I watch him just like you do, and I think it’s almost inappropriate for me to say it, I don’t see how it’s possible. But there’s something wrong.” He talked about Biden’s interview with NBC’s Al Roker and said, “I don’t think he can.” Carlson asked him about other possible candidates. Trump mentioned Vice President Kamala Harris and California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

But the one thing that Democrats and the left should know, is that Donald Trump is in no way the political newbie he may have been in 2016. While discussing Biden and other possible candidates, Trump commented on how they are surrounded by “vicious smart people.” He is also very much aware that, in addition to threats like China or Russia, “America’s biggest problem is from within. It’s these sick radical people from within.” Donald Trump knows exactly what is going on, and like they have ever since he came down the Trump escalator, Democrats will continue to underestimate him.
