Even if you are not a political nerd, the elections in New York City, New Jersey, and Virginia will at least get some passing interest from a large number of Americans. More than one person has said that these elections will determine the future path of the Democratic Party. And whether Democrats want to admit it or not, it's true. Since the 2024 presidential election, Democrats' popularity is about even with gas station sushi, with much of it being their own doing. It is painting a pretty rosy picture for Republicans' chances in the 2026 midterm elections.
Eric Swalwell just said that Democrats wonβt allow Speaker Johnson to be sworn into Congress if they win the majority in 2026.

This is who they are.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) contends that Republicans are in a good place to maintain control of the House of Representatives a year out from the 2026 election. There is that old conventional bit of wisdom that the party out of power tends to gain seats in midterm elections, but the NRCC has made a good argument that the GOP may upend conventional wisdom.

They cite Democrats' favorability, which is currently at 33 percent. Part of that dismal rating is Democrats championing issues like illegal immigration and men in women's sports that average Americans in large numbers do not support. While Republicans hold the slimmest of majorities in the House, several polls released on Sunday show Democrats with a minuscule lead in generic ballots and rock-bottom favorability. A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll of 2,725 people showed Democrats with a two percentage point lead among those voters. Voters also said they viewed the Democrat party as being "out of touch." A RealClearPolitics poll also showed Democrats with a slight lead of 3.4 percent among voters.

Then there is also the fact that the NRCC raised $720,000 more than the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) between January and September of this year. Chump change when talking about political fundraising for sure. There is also the redistricting that has taken place in Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio, in which the GOP could very well pick up seats. But perhaps the best weapon thus far is a video put out by the NRCC portraying Democrats as socialists, and there is no better person to highlight that than New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who appears in the video three times. Should he win the mayoral election, Republicans intend to make him, as an internal memo states, the "face of the Democrat Party."

These are all good signs that Republicans will have a good election night in 2026. But could an overabundance of cockiness come back to bite them? A year in politics can be an eternity, and literally anything can happen. One could argue that cockiness breeds laziness. Stranger things have definitely happened, but Republicans might take a cue from Democrats' past indolence. All the way back in 1980, Jimmy Carter was eight points ahead in polls among registered voters, until a debate one week before the election. Reagan won by a healthy 10 points. Hillary Clinton was a "shoo-in" in 2016 and therefore skipped going to the crucial swing state of Wisconsin.
While things look good for Republicans on election night 2026, a healthy warning against getting overconfident can't be all bad. Democrats are destroying themselves. The last thing we need is to slide into a "Dewey Defeats Truman" mentality.

Insurance companies set the premiums. Not politicians.

The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
