Jewish Conservatives Launch New 'Jews Against Soros' Campaign

Two Jewish conservative activists have set up a new organization aimed at rebutting claims by left-wing groups that criticizing billionaire Democrat donor George Soros is somehow anti-Semitic, launching Jews Against Soros, to oppose his political philanthropy.

Josh Hammer, a senior editor at Newsweek, and Will Scharf, a candidate for state attorney general in Missouri, have launched JewsAgainstSoros.com to say there is nothing anti-Semitic in criticizing the influence of the 93-year-old financier.

The website explains: (emphasis original)

We are Jews who have had enough of George Soros and his malign, leftist influence on American politics. We are Jews who are also sick and tired of the left accusing anyone who criticizes Soros of being antisemitic.

Let us be very clear: There is nothing antisemitic about condemning George Soros. There is nothing antisemitic about identifying the many ways that George Soros and his network of organizations fund the radical left.

Leftism isn’t Judaism, and being anti-leftist is not the same as being Antisemitic. Period. It’s time for Jews all over America to stand up against George Soros.

It goes on to outline Soros’s background and the role of his foundations in supporting left-wing causes and activism:

George Soros is a Hungarian-born Jewish billionaire investor, who has become particularly prominent for creating a network of left-wing think tanks, nonprofit organizations, and political groups.

Soros’s groups, most notably the Open Society Foundations and the Foundation to Promote Open Society, have “funded the vast majority of the most prominent left-progressive advocacy groups in the United States.

Attacking Soros for his influence on American politics isn’t Antisemitic.  It is simply a fact that he funds a huge proportion of the radical left in this country.  And he must be stopped.

The activists also make the case that American Jews have a particular reason to denounce Soros because of his committment to backing causes that seek to undermine the state of Israel:

American Jews have a special interest in stopping George Soros.  In sharp contrast to the great majority of American Jews who support the American-Israeli alliance, Soros has funded numerous groups that oppose Israel, that fight against the American-Israeli alliance, and that have spread Antisemitic lies about the state of Israel.

The website explains that, as well as his political giving, Soros has also funded the careers of left-wing prosecutors across major cities such as New York and Chicago, and campaigns for gun control and open borders.

Given his age, Soros has handed increasing responsibility for his affairs over to his son Alex. RedState  previously wrote that the young Soros “has been a regular guest of the White House ever since President Joe Biden assumed office in 2021, according to official records” reviewed by the New York Post.

Just this week, Fox News Digital reported that Alex “maintained access to the upper echelons of President Biden’s White House and has frequently taken advantage of those channels,” writing:

The younger Soros, who chairs the board of directors for his father’s Open Society Foundations network, has now visited the White House at least 17 times since 2021, according to a Fox News Digital review of visitor logs.

Alex’s most recent visits include three meetings between February 8th and 10th, records released Tuesday show. The visitor logs list Jon Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser; Jordan Finkelstein, special assistant to the president and the chief of staff for senior Biden adviser Anita Dunn; and Mariana Adame, the adviser to the counselor of the president, as the individuals who greeted Alex.

Meanwhile, left-wing activist groups such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) continue to claim that criticizing Soros’s political activities amounts to an anti-Semitic attack. The organization claims:

In far-right circles worldwide, Soros’ philanthropy often is recast as fodder for outsized conspiracy theories, including claims that he masterminds specific global plots or manipulates particular events to further his goals.

Many of those conspiracy theories employ longstanding antisemitic myths, particularly the notion that rich and powerful Jews work behind the scenes, plotting to control countries and manipulate global events.
