Against All Odds, America Survived Donald Trump Giving a Speech on Fourth of July

We did it.

I don’t know how we did it, but it’s a testament to our resilience as a nation. Somehow, someway, we mustered the strength to survive the President giving a completely non-political speech on the Fourth of July.

And did I mention there were tanks?

The collective freak-out that accompanied this past week’s lead up to the annual Independence Day festivities on the National Mall has been something to behold.

Here’s just a taste of the hysterics we witnessed.

Absolutely chilling.

Here’s video of the speech if you’d care to see some cool flyovers and a brief history of the United States. The absolute horror contained within is hard to take, so viewer discretion is advised.

So what actually happened? Trump gave a very good, non-political speech that spent time honoring key figures in American history, as well as each branch of the military.

It was unifying and even the most ardent Trump opposer should have been able to suspend their delusion for a moment and just enjoy the spectacle. B-2 Bombers and F-22s flying over are cool. The band playing the different songs of the branches is cool. There’s nothing wrong with any of that.

Of course, despite Trump making his naysayers look like petty children for being so over-the-top about the whole thing, the left-wing media responded exactly as you’d expect.

CNN aired the rest of the speech, but afterward, the floodgates of stupid shattered into a million pieces. Kirby led by asserting that he’s “troubled about the militaristic tone of the whole thing” that was “fairly sepia toned, and saccharine in its depth and context” lacking anything “about where the country should be going, what we should be working on.”

I just want to point out that had the President actually included “where the country should be going” in his speech, these same people would have lost their minds over him politicizing the event.

It didn’t end there, though. Here’s April Ryan ranting about…well something.

As he’s saluting the military, I also watched him and heard him talk about women’s suffrage, you know, a hundred years ago how women weren’t allowed to vote. But there are still calls for him to have free and fair elections, you know, especially after this last midterm where there were calls about and not just women but just but for minorities as well issues of voter suppression.

This is CNN. She’s of course alluding to noted Georgia Gov. Stacey Abrams, who lost her election by 55,000 votes amid absolutely no evidence of voter suppression. But who’s keeping track?

The insanity that has descended upon our political discourse has reached heights that I would have laughed off as improbable just a few years ago. Literally, every single thing Donald Trump does must be spun as the end of the world. A few Bradleys on the Mall? Tienanmen Square all over again. A speech honoring the military? Trump is declaring himself dictator.

There’s such a thing as overplaying your hand and I’m beginning to think the left may be reaching that point. Are normal Americans really looking at this nonsense and thinking “yeah, I want to give them power?” I can’t say for sure, but I’m hopeful not.
