Nancy Pelosi Cuts Elizabeth Warren Off At the Knees

Rising disagreement among congressional Democrats over whether to pursue impeachment of President Donald Trump has had little effect on the party’s presidential candidates, who mostly are avoiding calls to start such an inquiry. Elizabeth Warren released her bonkers plan to pay for “Medicare for All” yesterday. In it, she promises to do everything but make pigs fly. Somehow, she’s going to fund a $52T entitlement without raising middle class taxes despite the fact that all the wealth of the entire 1% combined wouldn’t pay for ten years.

Oh yeah, and you are going to get to pay a new payroll tax, but don’t call it a middle class tax hike because MSNBC might get mad you are ruining Warren’s “clap-back.”

Some Democrats realize how much of a dumpster fire this is though. Nancy Pelosi went out yesterday and took an ax to the knees of Elizabeth Warren over her ridiculous “plan.”

Don’t kid yourself. San Fran Nan would be all over this if she thought it would be popular and pass. There’s no principled stand being taken here by the House Speaker. But she knows that telling almost 200 million people in this country they are going to lose their health insurance and pay higher taxes as a result isn’t exactly a winning strategy.

No doubt the Warren and Bernie fans will be triggered by her statements, but is Pelosi wrong? I’d venture to say she’s not. At no time in the history of this country has an entitlement program ever managed to stay near its projected costs. When you are projecting $52 trillion over just ten years, which is well over double our current total federal budget anyway, you can safety add another 50% to that before it even really gets started. It’s simply not realistic.

Never mind that such a system would destroy patient access to doctors and hospitals. Is your local physician going to accept being flooded with new patients while getting paid low Medicare reimbursement rates for everyone he sees? Chances are he’s not. I know my doctor has other business investments and would find something else to do. That’s the advantage of being highly educated and generally smart. No doubt some would stay, but the exodus of retirements would be large enough to essentially collapse the system.

You can kiss innovation goodbye as well once there’s no longer a profit motive to sink millions into research and development. Like with all things dealing with the government, stagnation and just doing what we’ve always done would become the new normal.

Pelosi knows all this and like impeachment, she’s trying hard to butt the barrage of support for Medicare for All coming from her left flank. And just like impeachment, she’s going to fail to hold back the tide. These radical, far-left actions will end up crushing her party. But hey, maybe she shouldn’t have spent so much time appeasing these people? Create the monster, get eaten.
