One of the best aspects of Trump’s presidency has been his penchant for flushing out the absolute grifters who formerly ruled the Republican party. These were the beltway opportunists who held no actual convictions, especially in regards to social conservatism, but fancied themselves experts at everything while doing nothing but failing most of their career. They got the cushy cable news gigs and supposedly had all the answers.

Except they didn’t and Trump’s election ripped off the mask. Without the marks in government to give them jobs, they had to find a new con to pay the bills. That new con, for at least a portion of these Never Trumpers, was something called the Lincoln Project. Bill Kristol, Rick Wilson, George Conway, and a myriad of other lobbyists and campaign consultants (who never seem to have worked on a winning campaign) are involved.

Now, if they weren’t so already, they’ve been fully exposed for exactly what they are with their latest gambit.

Conserving conservatism by trying to hand the Democrats the Senate? Why, it’s almost like these hacks were never Republicans in the first place. Keep in mind, we were told for years that Mitch McConnell was the “right” kind of Republican by those who are now Never Trump. He’s the guy we need to all suck it up and follow because he gets things done and he knows the system. But with Trump on the scene, they aren’t even pretending anymore. It’s full steam ahead to try to destroy the GOP in its entirety. It was never just about Trump. This is who these people always were.

Of course, past the politics, the worst part of this is the scam itself. They take in money and pay it almost all back out to themselves and their friends to “consult” and “produce” content. It’s a self-licking ice cream cone of epic proportions, to the point where you have to wonder just how legal it all is. I almost feel sorry for those who are giving these people money, but then I remember they have a choice here. So perhaps they deserve to be scammed?

I don’t know if Trump wins or loses in 2020. I’m not going to be a fool and attempt to predict such, especially with so much up in the air right now. What I do know is that the people who run the Lincoln Project will never return to prominence, they will never have influence again, and they will be left out in the cold the moment Democrats don’t need them anymore. It’ll be a well-deserved ending.
