New: Sidney Powell Responds to Trump Campaign's Distancing

Last night, the Trump campaign put out an unprompted statement essentially disowning Sidney Powell and her claims about German servers and millions of votes being switched via payments. It was not the kind of thing you do just to “clarify” their relationship. It was the kind of thing you do when you want it to be known that her work is not influencing your work.

Reports are that Trump got fed up with Powell refusing to even provide his own lawyers the evidence she claims to have.

When you are trying to thread a needle in the legal sense, which the Trump campaign is admittedly trying to do with its election challenges, the last thing you need is someone smearing themselves in honey and running naked through the woods. That’s been the feeling for the last few days regarding Powell’s claims, which have just gotten more outlandish as she continues to refuse to give the President himself a heads up about what she has. The breaking point appeared to be a Newsmax interview in which she claimed Kelly Loeffler was in on the conspiracy. Putting the GOP Senate at risk may have been a bridge too far.

Regardless, Powell responded in two separate statements and it shouldn’t give anyone much confidence. This per The Daily Wire.

I understand today’s press release. I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes for Trump and other Republicans stolen by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be filing suit soon. The chips will fall where they may, and we will defend the foundations of this great Republic. #KrakenOnSteroids

Here’s the problem. You can’t represent “WeThePeople” and succeed here. Lin Wood, a fairly well respected conservative lawyer made famous via Nick Sandmann’s defamation litigation, has tried this already and was found to not have standing. No judge is going to let Sidney Powell make it to court because the rules on this stuff are long-standing and can only be changed on appeal. I’ll let you calculate the odds of that happening.

In other words, a lawyer needs a client. In this case, that client needs to be the candidate who was wronged, i.e. Donald Trump. If the Trump campaign is saying they have no association, that’s basically it.

Later, Powell would put out a longer statement in which she asked for donations and got more verbose in her accusations. Here’s the latter part of that.

I agree with the campaign’s statement that I am not part of the campaign’s legal team. I never signed a retainer agreement or sent the President or the campaign a bill for my expenses or fees.

My intent has always been to expose all the fraud I could find and let the chips fall where they may–whether it be upon Republicans or Democrats.

The evidence I’m compiling is overwhelming that this software tool was used to shift millions of votes from President Trump and other Republican candidates to Biden and other Democrat candidates. We are proceeding to prepare our lawsuit and plan to file it this week. It will be epic.

We will not allow this great Republic to be stolen by communists from without and within or our votes altered or manipulated by foreign actors in Hong Kong, Iran, Venezuela, or Serbia, for example, who have neither regard for human life nor the people who are the engine of this exceptional country.

#WeThePeople elected Donald Trump and other Republican candidates to restore the vision of America as a place of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Look, if these claims weren’t enough for the President to keep going with, I suspect most of his supporters are also not going to keep going down this road. Powell claims to have had this evidence for almost two weeks now. She has claimed it’s so much that it’s like drinking from a fire hose. Yet, with very little time left before the electors vote, she still isn’t ready to file? She’s still making promises of how “epic” it’s going to be while refusing to even show the President himself the evidence?

Color me skeptical to the point of thinking that this is actually hurting the President’s more legitimate, fleshed out cases. I believe that’s why he pulled the plug of association. Powell may truly believe what she’s saying, but the hashtags and donation soliciting while continuing to string this out does not paint a picture of confidence.

I’ll guess we’ll see though.
