Ted Cruz Chops up Biden's Corruption-Plagued FAA Nominee

Ted Cruz is having himself a Wednesday, and the afternoon brought about another big hearing for the Texas senator.

Earlier in the day, Cruz grilled AG Merrick Garland, getting him to admit that the Biden administration was not enforcing the law fairly on a variety of fronts. Next up was the president’s nominee to lead the Federal Aviation Administration, Phil Washington.

Washington has a long history of working for far-left politicians, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. He also happens to be caught up in a corruption scandal that alleges he headed up a pay-to-play scandal, handing out $800,000 in no-bid contracts to a politically-tinged charity.

Still, the Biden administration has kept Washington as the nominee because absolutely nothing matters to the White House but pushing supposed “equity” within government agencies.

Whether you like Cruz or not, and I personally think he’s great, the man does his homework. For him to be able to jump from hearing to hearing like this on the same day and continue to just dominate on various topics is a skill, and it’s one that doesn’t come easily. The Texas senator is whip-smart, and he doesn’t suffer obfuscations and foolishness, both of which Washington attempted to dabble in during the exchange.

As Cruz points out, the investigation into Washington led to a criminal search warrant being executed in 2022. Further, the California AG’s office, hardly a bastion of right-wing ideology, is continuing to probe the matter despite Washington’s claims that the issue has been “debunked.” Cruz lays out the case in expert fashion, hitting every major point with visual references.

Toward the end, Washington tries to claim there have been “no findings of wrongdoing” and that the deal happened before he got the LA Metro job. Cruz immediately debunked that by putting up a giant poster board showing the search warrant’s probable cause section that accused Washington of pushing the corrupt pay-to-play deal forward.

It is inexplicable that the Biden administration would continue to promote Washington’s nomination given he’s under an active criminal investigation in his own state. A state, mind you, that is run nearly completely by Democrats, so any allegations of partisanship don’t wash.

The FAA has already gone woke to a laughable degree. One of the first things the Biden administration changed was to make NOTAM mean “notice to air missions” instead of “notice to airmen” because “airmen” was deemed sexist. The former doesn’t even make any sense given you can’t give notice to something inanimate and not every flight is a “mission” anyway. It is airmen, i.e. the pilots, that need and are given notice of things like runway closures, navaid [navigational aid] outages, and so forth.

But everything must be made stupid in the name of “equity” as long as the Biden administration is in charge. Washington will only push that ball forward, and he must be stopped. The FAA helps guard millions of lives a year in the nation’s skies. It’s not a place for social engineering and political hires.
