Lin Wood Has Flipped on Donald Trump

When Donald Trump and 18 other co-defendants were indicted by Fulton County DA Fani Willis earlier in the year, there was one name suspiciously missing from the list. That would be attorney Lin Wood, who was one of the ringleaders in claiming the 2020 election in Georgia was stolen.

Aside from holding rallies promoting "Stop the Steal," Wood even went so far as to claim that Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger were going to be jailed. Given that, you can imagine the confusion among onlookers when it was revealed he wasn't charged with anything regarding Willis' supposed criminal conspiracy.

Now, we know why, or at least we have a pretty darn good idea of why. On Wednesday, a court filing revealed that Wood has flipped on Donald Trump and will be a key witness for the state in the RICO case.

Pro-Donald Trump lawyer Lin Wood is a “witness for the state” in the Georgia election subversion case, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis revealed Wednesday.

The reference to Wood was buried in a new court filing by the DA’s office that raised potential conflicts of interest for six defense attorneys because they previously represented witnesses or other defendants in related proceedings.

Wood was previously subpoenaed by prosecutors in the Georgia probe but his status as a witness for the state was not previously known.

“Lin Wood is a witness for the State in the present case,” the court filing says.

It's obvious why this isn't good news for Donald Trump. With Wood having been such a prominent part of "Stop the Steal," including inventing and promoting some of the wildest conspiracy theories, he would not have been let off the hook if he didn't have something very valuable to provide to the prosecution. That could mean anything from text messages and emails to direct testimony.

It doesn't even really matter whether that testimony is true or not. It's just a matter of what he's willing to say and hand over to save his own bacon. Given that Willis didn't even bother charging him in order to squeeze him, he must have been very cooperative from the beginning of her investigation.

Does that make Willis' case any less farcical today than it was yesterday? No, it doesn't. Using RICO statutes to go after Trump and his associates remains an exercise in insanity. There was no grand criminal conspiracy conducted by a criminal enterprise in Georgia in 2022. It was just Trump believing the election was stolen and shooting from the hip. That seems obvious given how haphazard and incoherent so much of what transpired was.

Willis is a far-left Democrat who wants to make a name for herself. She wants to be the one to finally take down the bad orange man. That's all there is to this situation. Unfortunately, she just might succeed in her gambit given the immense bias that exists within Fulton County.

Regardless, let this be a reminder to Republicans in the future. If you lie down with dogs, you might get fleas, so choose your associates wisely.
