Democrats Are Saying the Quiet Part Out Loud About Biden and 2024

As RedState reported, Joe Biden's prospects in 2024 do not look good. "Bidenomics" has crashed and burned while the president's supposed foreign policy expertise has led to nothing but chaos. He's now almost as unpopular as Jimmy Carter was during his ill-fated re-election run, and that's leading to some blunt assessments from Democrats.

David Axelrod, who served as Barack Obama's chief strategist, took to social media on Sunday and said the quiet part out loud, with a wink and nudge, of course.

I think we can all figure out what that translates to, and that's assuming it's not already straightforward enough. Axelrod isn't hiding the ball. He is scared to death that Biden is going to keep chugging and end up losing to Donald Trump, and we all know that would be an apocalyptic event for Democrats. He and others have convinced themselves that if they can just boot the old guy, it'll all work out.

But on that note, why should anyone believe that? Does anyone really think Kamala Harris would be doing any better as the standard-bearer for her party? All available evidence says she's one of the worst politicians in modern history. In her most recent press appearance, an interview with 60 Minutes, Harris proclaimed that Joe Biden "is very much alive." You know, because that's what you want your vice president to say about the president. It's a real confidence booster for the American public.

That brings me to something I've been saying for several years. Namely, I just can't envision any scenario where someone other than Harris replaces Biden and it does not turn into a party-destroying affair. Imagine the cries of racism and misogyny if Gavin Newsom tries to swoop in and take over. I'm sure Democrats would love to make that swap, but they can't.

That's what happens when you make a deal with the devil to elect a senile geriatric who selects his vice president based on her sex and race. Live by identity politics, die by identity politics. Democrats are stuck with what they've got. Perhaps next time they shouldn't essentially rig their own primary for short-term political gain. I'm sure they still consider it worth it, but these are the consequences. It's Biden or Harris. There is no third option that puts the Democrats back in the driver's seat.
