Venezuela is socialist paradise, which means it’s only a like of fire short of being Hell. Businesses have all but abandoned the country due to shortages of pretty much everything, from toilet paper to medical supplies. Securing food could cost somewhere around a month’s pay, if you’re able to find it at all. It’s even gotten to the point where it’s President, Maduro, has ordered that citizens work the fields to try to combat the food shortage.
But the nightmare continues, and it’s gotten bad enough that women have begun to take measures to make sure they don’t bring a child into that world. Problem is – as I mentioned – Venezuela has pretty much run out of everything, and this includes birth control and prophylactics. So the only option some women have left is to sterilize themselves.
According to Fox News Latino, some clinics in Venezuela are having “sterilization days,” where women can come in and have the procedure done.
The clinic offers 40 slots during its so-called “sterilization day” offered regularly at a number of clinics in wealthier sections of the city, but as recently as last year, it did not come close to filling them. Now, however, all the slots are filled, and there is a waiting list of around 500 women hoping to get the procedure.
“Who wants to be pregnant right now in Venezuela?” Sonia Schott, the former Washington, D.C., correspondent for Venezuelan news network Globovisión, told Fox News Latino. “How can you be sure your child will have everything it needs? How do you know when you go to the hospital they’ll even have the proper medicine or equipment?”
Currently, securing diapers, formula, and other necessities for raising a child is nigh impossible. Feeding yourself is a highly difficult task as is. This makes raising a child in Venezuela nearly impossible.
So now we can add sterilization to the list of things Maduro’s quest for “social justice” and “equality” – but really his own self-interest – have led to.
