The Republican National Committee (RNC), alongside the Republican National Senatorial Committee (RNSC) are abandoning any support for Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore due to the allegations leveled against him.
According to the Associated Press, RNC and RNSC representatives said they’re washing their hands of Moore, including pulling any money and campaign support:
Officials with the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee said Wednesday the organizations have made no changes in their decision to withdraw financial and field support from Moore’s campaign.
The groups withdrew their support earlier this month following a series of allegations that Moore sexually assaulted and harassed teenage girls when he was an assistant district attorney in his 30s. He is now 70.
President Trump indicated on Tuesday that, despite the fallout, a Democrat could not be allowed to win the seat, and noted that Moore completely denies the allegations leveled against him. Trump added that he would decide whether or not he would support Moore by next week, but if his rhetoric is any indication he will attempt to help the Alabama Republican.
Aside from the RNC pulling its support, Republicans have also asked that Moore withdraw, including Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
