Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and his beard weren’t afraid of calling out Democrats for their ownership in regards to the shutdown, specifically in the form of Virginia’s Democrat Senator Tim Kaine.
Appearing with Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press” Sunday, Cruz made sure the audience knew that Virginia is filled to the brim with federal workers
“You’ve got my friend Tim Kaine coming on in a minute — he represents Virginia,” Cruz said. “There are a lot of federal workers in the commonwealth of Virginia.”
“If Tim Kaine and [fellow Virginia Sen.] Mark Warner were to say, ‘We’re going to put the jobs of the men and women of Virginia ahead of our partisan interests, ahead of the fact that our base hates Donald Trump’ … [they] would take only five more Democrats in the Senate to have the votes to say this second ‘Schumer Shutdown’ is over, we’re reopening the government and we’re going to implement common-sense border security that the American people want,” Cruz continued.
At this time, the government is in the middle of a shutdown that doesn’t look to be ending anytime soon with both sides standing off over the border wall. Interestingly, even the Democrats have advocated for better border security in the past, yet seem unwilling to move on the $5 billion asked for by President Donald Trump for the wall, likely due to the fact that fulfilling one of Trump’s greatest campaign promises would give Republicans serious momentum going into 2020.
