CNN's April Ratings Were an Unmitigated Disaster, and That's Not All

It’s hard to believe, but the network that won an award for its reporting on the missing Malaysian airliner — including suggesting it fell into a black hole — is suffering some of the worst ratings it’s experienced in four years.

According to Forbes, the network has dropped in viewership just above a quarter compared to last year, with April ranking as its lowest month so far.

…the network saw its prime time lineup drop 26% in April compared to the same month one year ago. CNN’s total audience in prime time was well under a million viewers–767,000–while competitors MSNBC and Fox News finished the month far ahead: MSNBC in second place overall with 1.660 million total viewers, and Fox News leading all of cable with a total audience of 2.395 million.

April ranks as CNN’s lowest-rated month among total viewers in nearly four years, since October 2015. CNN’s Cuomo Primetime, which has been the network’s highest-rated hour, drew a total audience of 917,000 viewers in April, the show’s worst-ever performance.

It gets worse. The 25-54 age of viewership, which Forbes lists as the most coveted age by national advertisers, is down a whopping 41 percent, drawing in a measly 198,000 number of viewers in the demographic. Compare that to MSNBC (255,000), and Fox News (389,000). All cable news networks showed a decline, however, including MSNBC and Fox News who suffered a 36 and 19 percent drop respectively.

This drop has followed the news of the Mueller report coming out with zero charges to press against Trump, resulting in something of an anti-climactic turn for the left and its media. The demoralization of the news media has definitely affected its viewership for the worse.

Naturally, to the victor go the spoils. Fox News, has not only taken the least damage, but it’s also still bringing in more viewers during primetime than MSNBC and CNN combined with a total of 5.92 million between Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity. Rachel Maddow brought in 2.6 million, while CNN didn’t have a single show in the top 25.
