No one virtue signals louder than the Hollywood stars of Beverly Hills, and apparently, no one wants to have to deal with the product of the virtue signals less than they do.

As originally reported by HotAir’s Karen Townsend on Tuesday, the same glitterati that were preaching about how much black lives matter even urging contributions to a fund to bail rioters out of prison do not want any of this nonsense happening in their backyard and as such, issued emergency orders that ban public gatherings:

It’s the ultimate Not In My Back Yard (NIMBY) – the City of Beverly Hills issued an emergency order Saturday night that bans public gatherings of more than 10 people in residential areas between 9 PM and 8 AM. What brought this on? Well, it seems a group calling themselves “Occupy” disrupted the beauty sleep of locals in their posh neighborhood on June 12 between the hours of 10 PM until 1 AM. The group used bullhorns and “amplified music”. The residents want their tranquility back. The emergency order remains in effect until further notice.

The points made as to why? Hilariously, it’s all the things these celebs were practically cheering on in the first place.

  • The Director of Emergency Services declared an “existence of a local emergency” because the city was “potentially subject to violent protests.”
  • Property damage was incurred on May 30 along with “widespread acts of violence.”
  • A group called “OCCUPY” protested until 1:00 a.m.
  • The use of bullhorns at night “disrupted the tranquility” of the neighborhood.

In other words, the bubbled coastals want you to make noise, speak up, and get rowdy, but not around them, please. They want their peace and quiet. They told everyone how great Black Lives Matter is, isn’t that enough? Go burn down the stores in the peasant district.

As Townsend pointed out, Beverly Hills has a good reason to do this. May 30’s march quickly did what many left-leaning protests do and they eventually became destructive, with stores being broken into and looted on Rodeo Drive.

I can’t help but be incredibly amused, and not just because of the blatant hypocrisy. This is a perfect example of just how much of our culture is made up of false concern for things that people only care about because it’s trendy to do so. This is a perfect example of the curtain being ripped back and the wizard, so intimidating and fearsome, is now exposed as a frail charlatan with a god complex.

These people don’t really care, they just want to be seen caring. The moment it becomes inconvenient to them to even play host to a demonstration that promotes the idea of caring, they shut it down. It’s the very definition of a virtue signal. It’s taking credit for doing something good without really doing anything at all.

If they truly wanted to help — if anyone really wanted to help — they would march for awareness and to voice their outrage as is framed in our Constitution, and then they would go and do the research necessary on the laws and policies that could be changed to make sure this doesn’t happen again, or at the very least, happens far less than it does.

This could include everything from police department policies to getting down to the root of the problem when it comes to destructive patterns in various communities. It’s not sexy, it’s not flashy, and it involves work, but it’s the path to being truly effective.

Again, however, it’s not actually about being effective, it’s about being seen wanting something to affect change. Doing the hard work is for other people. This isn’t just a Beverly Hills mindset, either. This is the mindset of many.

Besides, if the problem was actually solved, many Democrats, special interest groups, and media figures would be out of a job, and we can’t have that, can we?
