Anti-fascist counter-demonstrators cross the Burnside Bridge across the Willamette River from the west side of the city to the east side in search of the far-right group, the Proud Boys, in Portland, Ore., Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019. Self-described anti-fascists vowed to confront the rally while leaders from the far right urged their followers to turn out in large numbers to protest the arrests of multiple members of right-wing groups in the run-up to the event. It was about Confederate generals and bringing down statues dedicated to racism…for about five minutes. Then it quickly moved into basically burning down any statue they came across no matter who it was dedicated to. Being an abolitionist who suffered because of your work to free slaves didn’t save you.

Now I can report that the protesters have actually done a good thing by burning down the statue of the old civil war confederate general, Thadius “Hardhorns” McGuffin, the cruel, racist military man who raped, pillaged, and tortured his way through Oregon.

Just kidding. It’s just an elk. They’re burning statues of animals now.

The video you see above you is rioters burning the statue of an elk after having vandalized it. For what reason they decided to target the elk statue is still unknown. The statue had been dedicated to Portland by David P. Thompson back in 1900.

The statue had previously been reported as a favorite mark for rioters to write messages like “f**k Trump” on it.

While it’s sad that such a beautiful statue had to suffer like this, it does serve to point out something very clear to everyone. These rioters don’t really have or need a cause. They don’t care about black lives or equality. They’re not concerned about ending racism or even who is in office.

All they care about is destroying, burning, and bringing down the system that they live a very comfortable, hollow life in. Any claims that they’re illegally bringing down a statue for legitimate reasons should be ignored. They’re not really trying to find an excuse, they’re just trying to find a reason that makes you pause in your protest to their actions.

Let me leave you with this warning that was made by a Venezuelan girl who watched as it started statues in her country and devolved into something far worse.

“Why do I even worry about some silly little statues coming down or some silly little street names changing? Why do I care?

It’s because the last time I didn’t care about this, I was a teenager. I have already lived through this thing when I was living in Venezuela. Statues came down, Chavez didn’t want that history displayed. And then he changed the street names. Then came the [school] curriculum. Then some movies couldn’t be shown, then certain TV channels, and so on and so forth.

You guys think it can’t happen to you, I’ve heard this so many times. But always be on guard. Never believe something can’t happen to you. You need to guard your country and your society or it will be destroyed.

We didn’t believe it could happen to us. Most Venezuelans – Cubans warned us – and we were like, ‘[This is] Venezuela, we know about freedom. That’s not going to happen here.’ Yet it happened. And there are literally a lot of people wanting to destroy the U.S.”
