Democrats Can't Sell Biden's "Devout" Catholicism With Words

It’s day one and we already have our first big dodge from President Joe Biden’s new press secretary, Jen Psaki.

If you’re wondering about how the Biden administration will treat the Mexico City policy, which disallows taxpayer dollars from funding abortions overseas, then keep waiting, because Psaki isn’t going to give a straight answer about it. What she will do, however, is remind you that Biden is totally a devout Catholic, so chill.

Psaki was asked by Owen Jensen of Global Catholic Network what the plan for the Mexico City policy will be.

“Two big concerns for pro-life Americans: the Hyde Amendment, which of course keeps taxpayer dollars as you know for abortions, Medicaid abortions,” said Jenson. “And the Mexico City policy, which under the previous administration, expanded to keep tax dollars from overseas paying for abortions. So what does President Biden planning on doing on those two items right now?”

Psaki answered by not answering, but instead, referring to Biden’s “devout” Catholicism.

“Well, I think we’ll have more to say on the Mexico City policy in the coming days, but I will just take the opportunity to remind all of you that he is a devout Catholic and somebody who attends church regularly,” answered Psaki. “He started his day attending church with his family this morning, but I don’t have anything more for you on that.”

If Biden really was a “devout Catholic” his staff wouldn’t feel the need to remind us of his “devotion.” We would see it through his actions and decisions. Decisions like continuing the fight against abortion in the United States and on top of that, not allowing the tax dollars that you and I pay to wind up in the hands of foreign abortionists.

That’s not what he’s about, however.

He’s on record stating that he’s in favor of unlimited taxpayer-funded abortions. He also tried to sue some Catholic nuns because they won’t provide contraceptives to their employees. He’s not done yet either. He’s said that he wants to “restore the Obama-Biden policy that existed before the [Supreme Court’s 2014] Hobby Lobby ruling.”

That’s not the actions of a devout Catholic.

It’s hardly the actions of a good person.

If Biden was serious about his Catholicism then we wouldn’t have to hear about it. We’d see it in his decisions and he would resemble something like a recognizable Christian. Yet at every turn, he continues to make decisions that resemble atheistic positions. At the very least, he comes off more of a grifter than a devout anything.

This is the same Joe Biden that bragged about his NARAL rating not long after Biden released a campaign ad that depicted himself as a man of faith.

“Personally for me, faith, it’s all about hope and purpose and strength, and for me, my religion is just an enormous sense of solace,” he said in the ad.

“I go to Mass and I say the rosary. I find it to be incredibly comforting,” Biden added.

Words will not sell the public on his comfort levels with religion. For a man who abides by it, he sure does a lot of running from it while proclaiming it’s a deep part of who he is. It’s clearly not.

If Christ was standing in front of Biden and asked what his thoughts were about killing children in the womb, I sincerely doubt Biden would be able to look Him in the eye and answer him honestly. The truth is, abortion is murder, and God made a very clear rule against that. It’s unlikely that a devout person would disagree with that, but Joe Biden clearly does.
