New York Has Fallen, Leave If You Can

If you're a New Yorker, it might be time to find another place to be. You're not safe. If you're a police officer, go work somewhere else. You're not safe either.

By now, you've likely read the news about the illegal aliens in New York who jumped two police officers, beat them, reportedly stole one of the officer's phones, and then ran away. Four men were later arrested. However, as RedState reported, the city of New York decided that prosecuting them was wrong and released them without bail, resulting in two men flipping everyone off and another openly laughing as they walked free.

Some sources believe the men have now fled the state and are bound for California.

To recap, if you're an illegal immigrant who violently attacks police officers you will suffer no consequences.

One has to wonder what kind of message that sends to criminal elements of New York who now know that it's open season in the city and that even attacking the police will result in nothing happening to you but some wasted time in a jail cell. It tells them they can safely rely on the city's politicians to stand between them and justice and that the city is effectively toothless when it comes to crime.

Well...for certain people.

If you recall, Daniel Penny is an ex-Marine who protected a subway train car full of people against Jordan Neely, a career criminal with a history of violence. Penny put Neely in a chokehold when he started to act erratically, and despite Penny doing everything in his power to make sure Neely was okay, including putting him in a recovery position, Neely later died.

New York's political class accused Penny of every social sin under the sun on top of being a murderer and soon he was arrested.

Penny was released on a staggering $100,000 bail and he is still fighting for his freedom after a New York City judge denied a motion to dismiss his criminal case.

As I reported on Friday, Penny's Attorney, Thomas Kenniff, called the decision by the city to release the immigrants without bail requirements "very confounding."

"The primary purpose of bail is to ensure that people return to court," Kenniff told Fox News. "[F]rom what I understand, they seem to have minimal if no ties to New York City."

Kenniff noted that the city might not have posted bail because they knew the illegal immigrants had limited means, but that it was likely they were a flight risk and New York effectively opened the door for them to leave.

"Moreover, anyone who is willing to resist arrest — or even worse, assault a police officer — that's indicative of someone who doesn't have respect for the legal system, which makes them even less likely to return to court," Kenniff said. "So if there was ever a situation where bail is appropriate, this seems that sort of case."

So now two things are clear. If you're a police officer, you're not safe and if you're attacked the city will side with your attackers. If you're a citizen who attempts to intervene to protect people against a criminal, the city will punish you for it.

And it's only going to get more unsafe.

As I reported back in November of last year, officers have become "afraid to make arrests" after the city's leftist politicians gave in to the anti-cop hostility birthed from the incident with George Floyd. It triggered a mass exodus of police officers forcing the remaining officers to work long, brutal hours in a city where violence against police officers has risen 25 percent.

Guaranteed, this incident will only convince police officers that it's not worth being a cop in the city and they will leave. Soon, New York will effectively not have a police force capable of handling the city's crime and it will become a haven for criminals as the politicians refuse to come down on anyone if they match a certain description or hold a certain kind of identity.

If you're not tied down to New York then perhaps it's time to start considering a departure...

...just don't come to Texas. We're full.
