The Jokes That Changed History: Obama Birthed Trump Presidency at 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner

Personally, I don't believe there would have been a Donald Trump presidency if it wasn't for the performance then-President Barack Obama gave at the White House Correspondents' Dinner in 2011. Obama belittled Trump, who was flirting with a run for the presidency at the time, launching jabs at him for more than five minutes, with The Donald sitting mostly stone-faced throughout the comedy routine.

Obama's little skit focused on the release of his long-form birth certificate. He played a scene from Disney's "The Lion King" for the crowd, claiming that it was his birth video.

Obama then singled out Trump, who was in attendance, saying:

Now, I know that he’s taken some flak lately, but no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald. And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter—like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?

Obama quipped about Trump's lack of political experience, saying:

But all kidding aside, obviously, we all know about your credentials and breadth of experience. For example—no, seriously, just recently, in an episode of 'Celebrity Apprentice,' at the steakhouse, the men’s cooking team did not impress the judges from Omaha Steaks. And there was a lot of blame to go around. But you, Mr. Trump, recognized that the real problem was a lack of leadership. And so ultimately, you didn’t blame Lil Jon or Meatloaf. You fired Gary Busey. And these are the kinds of decisions that would keep me up at night.

Obama also displayed a photoshopped image of the White House under a theoretical Trump presidency, making it appear as one of his golf course, casino, and resort properties.

It's my opinion that right then and there, Trump was no longer considering a run for political office; he was resolved to take the mantle and become POTUS.

Trump broke every political rule and norm along the way and delivered a shocking upset to the next in line for coronation, Hillary Clinton. Trump quite literally rebutted Obama's speech by becoming president. While it deserves a thesis of its own, it cannot be understated how America and our political system would never be the same.

On Saturday, President Joe Biden decided to open by joking about the prosecution Trump faces amid an ongoing in a New York trial, calling it "stormy weather," as a reference to porn actress Stormy Daniels, the alleged victim of getting paid in a publishing scandal.

"Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update co-anchor and comedian Colin Jost, also made fun of Trump's prosecution, saying:

Sleepy Joe' is still awake while Donald Trump has spent the past week falling asleep in court every morning – though Fox News said he was just being anti-woke.

At another point, Jost joked that a reason Biden is using cocaine, which he said the president called "High-Speed Rail," is to help him to "orchestrate four separate trials against his rival."

Not only is this comment insensitive to America's First crackhead, I mean Son, Hunter Biden, but it lands especially flat, as documents were just released showing the White House's collusion in the classified documents case against Trump.

During his term, Trump broke tradition and never attended the dinner. We are free to speculate as to whether it was his contentious relationship with the "fake news media" or if Obama's stand-up routine made the event forever unpalatable.

But, he has commented on Saturday's WHCD on Truth Social:

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was really bad. Colin Jost BOMBED, and Crooked Joe was an absolute disaster! Doesn’t get much worse than this!

Personally, I enjoy it when Trump has something to avenge, as he did after the WHCD in 2011. I can't wait to see his "long form" rebuttal, hopefully at an inauguration in 2025.
