Democrats know the reason why Sen. Lindsey Graham, who once vehemently opposed President Trump, has turned into one of his strongest supporters. Well, actually, they have no proof, but Jon Cooperman, Chairman of the Democratic Coalition, heard from a “Republican” source that Graham has been “compromised” by Trump and  tweeted the following last weekend:

A Republican just told me that he doubts @LindseyGrahamSC is kowtowing to Trump (and indirectly Putin) because he’s being blackmailed over his sexual orientation (an open secret) or even financial corruption. Rather, he thinks it probably involves some pretty serious sexual kink.

This baseless rumor has been circulating in Democratic circles recently and appears to be gaining traction.

Anxious to discredit Trump in any way and/or anyone associated with him, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle ended her program on Tuesday by sharing this rumor with her viewers. She said she believes that Graham has been “compromised” by Trump, that Trump has threatened to reveal damaging information about his sexual orientation unless he supports the President’s agenda. She concluded with, “It could be that Donald Trump or somebody knows something pretty extreme about Lindsey Graham. We’re gonna leave it there.”

Perhaps hoping to steal some of the spotlight from her famous colleague, media darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, new hard-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) took to twitter on Tuesday.

She posted an earlier tweet from human rights activist and Muslim Community advocate Qasim Rashid, in which he included a 2015 CNN clip where Graham is insulting then-candidate Trump with the caption “I can’t even imagine what they have on Graham.” And above his tweet, she wrote:

“They got to him, he is compromised!”

Omar appeared on CNN today to discuss this tweet. Her response follows:

So over the last three years, we have seen many times where Sen. Lindsey Graham has told us how dangerous this President could be if he was given the opportunity to be in the White House. And all of the sudden, he’s made not only a 180 turnaround, but a 360 turnaround. And so I am pretty sure that there is something happening with him.

Wouldn’t a 360 degree turnaround mean Graham would be back to opposing Trump? As Gilda Radner would say, “Never mind!” She continues:

He is somehow compromised to no longer stand up for the truth and to make sure that he is fighting to protect the oath that he took in serving the American people.

The evidence really is present to us. It’s being presented to us in the way that he is behaving.

(Sounds like Chris Matthews telling viewers he knows Trump colluded with Russia because he acts like a guilty person.)

CNN’s Poppy Harlow asked Omar if she had any specific evidence that Trump was blackmailing Graham. Her response was breathtaking!

My tweet was just an opinion based on what I believe to be visible to me — and I’m pretty sure there are lots of Americans who agree on this.

The answer is she doesn’t have any evidence.

Breitbart’s John Nolte correctly describes the attack on Graham as the media/left’s latest form of McCarthysim.

This is the first stage of a smear campaign to take down one of Trump’s most ardent supporters. The anatomy of a smear campaign is simple to understand and even easier to execute. Just ask any junior high school girl.

It starts with a potentially believable basis. For years, rumors of Graham’s homosexuality have floated around Washington which provides a credible basis for the lie.

Although Graham has never married (and I have no idea if he is gay or not, nor do I care), nor has he confirmed his sexual orientation. But whoever initiated the current conspiracy theory used these rumors as the “basis” for the lie. They then shared their lie to another liberal, which probably went something like this:

“I just heard from a Republican that the reason Lindsay Graham has fallen into line with Trump is that Trump has some very compromising information on him.”

And, like a giant game of telephone, the lie begins to spread. Repeated enough times, the lie becomes the truth. Liberals love this lie because, of course, it ultimately hurts Trump.

Someone, possibly Jonathan Swift, once said, “A lie runs around the world faster than the truth can get its boots on.”

It is noteworthy that many of the smears against Trump began in a similar fashion. And instead of Jon Cooperman, Stephanie Ruhle, Ilhan Omar and the like, the campaigns against Trump were initiated by top level Obama administration officials who had more political weapons at their disposal and was executed in a far more organized way.

This is the new Democratic Party.

God help us.
