Planned Parenthood President, Cecile Richards testified before the Government Oversight & Reform Committee yesterday. It was a golden opportunity for the GOP to shine a light on Planned Parenthood and some of the abhorrent practices they engage in.

And they blew it. 

For however long Richards was there, most GOP members, for whatever reason, chose to make the issue about funding and spreadsheet information rather than the sale of baby organs and the fact that Planned Parenthood does not exist without snuffing out the lives of 300,000+ unborn every year.

Richards admitted that outside of government funding, abortion services accounts for 86% of Planned Parenthood’s revenue stream.

Time after time, GOP representatives were talking dollar figures with Richards. They complained about six figure salaries for employees, lavish galas, travel expenses and a fancy office in New York City. They attacked Cecile Richards salary. They talked about Medicaid reimbursements, federal funding and made comparisons to other organizations that do not receive taxpayer funds.

The one thing they failed to convey was the evil that lies at the heart of Planned Parenthood’s entire existence. There will be people who take exception to the word “evil” with regard to abortion but what other description fits as well?

Look at it this way: Planned Parenthood performed 327,000 abortions in 2014. The population of St. Louis, MO is 317,000 people. Imagine being in St. Louis and the entire population suddenly disappeared. That is what Planned Parenthood does. They essentially wipe out city populations every year.

It is for this reason, defenders of Planned Parenthood and their ilk refuse to even use the word “abortion.” They dress it up in nice sounding euphemisms such as “women’s health”, “reproductive rights” and “fetal research.” The euphemism is nothing more than the evil twin of the abortion.

George Orwell wrote in 1984, “…if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.”

In doing so, the people whose goal is unrestricted abortion on demand, sound like the reasonable ones when confronted. “Why on earth are you opposed to restricting access to women’s health?” is a question they will pose to their detractors. After all, how can anybody be opposed to women’s health other than knuckle-dragging neanderthals?

It was Carly Fiorina who provided the most sterling example of how to reply to this question when she was asked about it recently:

“How can you, as a woman, not support our health care?” Shireman asked.

“Oh, I support your health care,” Fiorina said. “I don’t support the butchering of babies. And you ought to go look at those videos,” Fiorina replied.

Fiorina had no issue speaking of the evil that is going on within organizations such as Planned Parenthood.

She combated the euphemism with a very effective tool: the truth.

The euphemism allows Cecile Richards and other supporters of abortion to obfuscate their true intentions and positions. The previous euphemism widely used in the debate was “safe, legal and rare.” With over one million abortions being performed in the United States every year, it’s fair to say that it is not rare. Thus, the new euphemisms were born. “Women’s health” and “reproductive rights” have taken their place on the stage.

The GOP had their chance and failed to do in several hours what Carly Fiorina was able to do in about 10 seconds which was slap down the evil of abortion and the evil twin, the euphemism. They should pay more attention to her.
