Report: Trust In Media Hits All-Time Low

An Axios report revealed that trust in the press has plummeted to an all-time low. In related news of the Captain Obvious variety, common sense also reveals that Alyssa Milano, Taylor Swift, and LeBron James are not political experts.

According to Axios, “For the first time ever, fewer than half of all Americans have trust in traditional media, according to data from Edelman’s annual trust barometer shared exclusively with Axios. Trust in social media has hit an all-time low of 27%.”

Here are the numbers:

56% of Americans agree with the statement that “Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.”

58% think that “most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public.”

When Edelman re-polled Americans after the election, the figures had deteriorated even further, with 57% of Democrats trusting the media and only 18% of Republicans.

The article notes that leaders in the news media industry are aware of the lack of trust and are supposedly committed to fixing the problem. The author quotes Washington Post media columnist Margaret Sullivan, who wrote, “our goal should go beyond merely putting truthful information in front of the public. We should also do our best to make sure it’s widely accepted.”

However, it appears that leftists still can’t figure out why the public no longer trusts the media, which means their proposed solutions are destined to fall flat. “Media outlets can continue to report reliable facts, but that won’t turn the trend around on its own,” the author writes. “What’s needed is for trusted institutions to visibly embrace the news media.”

The author suggests that CEOs of major companies, which he brands as a “trusted institution,” must “visibly embrace the news media.” He seems to believe this strategy will work because the survey also revealed that most conservatives trust the CEOs for whom they work.

“By the numbers: 61% of Trump voters say that they trust their employer’s CEO. That compares to just 28% who trust government leaders, and a mere 21% who trust journalists,” he wrote.

It’s rude to laugh at people, but the people who write these articles are so absurd in their thinking that it is nearly impossible not to chuckle. They would rather develop ridiculous tactics based on data that doesn’t say what they think it says than acknowledge the truth: The country does not trust the press because they are politically-motivated liars whose objective is to use propaganda to push an ideological agenda.

Members of the press stopped practicing actual journalism ages ago. In the past, the establishment media just exhibited a left-wing bias. It was evident that they had a leftist slant to their reportage, but it did not climb to the level of pure partisan hackery that we see today.

Over the past four years, these individuals threw off all pretense of being actual reporters. They became nothing more than media activists whose job was to serve as the marketing arm of the Democratic Party. It is for this reason that I refer to the once-revered Fourth Estate as the “activist media.”

Most of these folks do not deserve to be called journalists. Their blatant advocacy for the Democratic Party and leftist leaders are the reason why the American public no longer trusts them. While they might prefer to blame Trump for the decline in trust, he only serves as a convenient excuse. He only further exposed what many already knew and wasn’t afraid to attack them for it.

If the activist media truly wished to rebuild trust with the nation, they would stop proselytizing for the left and start giving us straight news. They wouldn’t act as commentators while claiming to be objective.

At this point, it seems clear that members of the activist media are willing to try every strategy they can concoct to avoid having to be honest in their news coverage. Their objective is to get the public to trust them while still being dishonest in their reportages so they can continue deceiving the American people.

Yet, the reality is that they have broken trust so horribly that none of their chicanery will work. They will not enjoy America’s confidence until they start doing what they were supposed to be doing in the first place. Still, it should be fun to watch them try, right?
