Is Impeaching Biden a Good Idea?

President Joe Biden has shown a devastating level of incompetence since he first took office. Indeed, he hasn’t even been president for a year yet and his presidency is shaping up to be one of the most incompetent that the nation has seen in years.

The president’s ineptitude has prompted many on the right to call for his resignation – and impeachment. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) took to Twitter to castigate Biden for his handling of the Afghanistan situation. He wrote:

If President Trump can be impeached over a phone call, then the time has come to IMPEACH Biden for gross negligence in Afghanistan. Americans deserve better. We deserve better than someone who willfully IGNORES the WORST crisis in decades.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) last Tuesday also called for impeaching President Biden. During an appearance on Newsmax, he said:

I think Joe Biden deserves to be impeached because he’s abandoned thousands of Afghans who fought with us and he’s going to abandon some American citizens because he capitulated to the Taliban to a 31 August deadline

Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan introduced articles of impeachment against President Biden over the Afghanistan fiasco. Last Thursday, Duncan released a statement that read:

Our Commander-in-Chief showed reckless disregard for both American citizens and allies in neglecting to secure their safe evacuation from Afghanistan once he withdrew our troops. The President promised to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, but it is evident the President has failed to fulfill this charge.

However, former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley brought up a valid point: If an impeachment effort were to be successful, what would happen next? On Twitter, she wrote:

Should Biden step down or be removed for his handling of Afghanistan? Yes. But that would leave us with Kamala Harris which would be ten times worse. God help us.

Haley brings up an important point. Yes, Biden is godawful at his job – but would Vice President Harris be a welcome alternative? Is it possible this could be one of those “be careful what you wish for” situations?

As we have already seen, the only other person who might be more inept than President Biden is probably Harris, who has the dubious distinction of being the vice president who is viewed the least favorably by the public. In fact, a recent poll revealed the American public knows she would be a horribly ineffectual president.

The migrant crisis provides an instructive example of Harris’ inability to do the job of president. Remember how long it took for her to even come close to visiting the southern border after being tapped to address the issue? Moreover, what exactly has she accomplished when it comes to dealing with the “root causes” that lead to crises like this? At this point, it seems clear that neither the president nor the vice president plans to do much to solve this problem.

Let’s not forget that despite her protestations, Harris was a key part of the decision-making process when the administration was figuring out how they would royally screw up the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

If that isn’t enough to make you wonder whether Harris would be a better replacement for Biden, there is also her horrible management style. Remember the Politico report detailing the toxic work environment she cultivates in her office? You might recall the number of staffers who complained about how she runs her team. Indeed, several of those individuals had either already quit or were looking for greener pastures at the time the report was released. While Biden’s leadership isn’t much better, we are not hearing the same level of criticism from his aides, are we?

Lastly, Harris is about as far to the left as it gets.

You might recall that during the 2020 campaign season, Harris had a rather authoritarian response to the anti-abortion legislation that was being passed in right-leaning states. She stated that if she were to occupy the oval office, she would prohibit states from passing laws limiting abortion without running it by her office first.

Also, it is worth remembering that Harris is worse than Biden on guns. On the campaign trail, Harris stated that after taking office, she would give Congress 100 days to pass meaningful gun control legislation or she would take matters into her own hands through executive orders.

So yes, Biden is woefully inept. But it seems apparent that a Harris presidency would be far worse. Indeed, we may see her in the top spot anyway if Biden chooses to step down before his first term is concluded. Moreover, Republicans don’t have a chance of removing Biden from office until after 2022. But even then, it might be prudent to hold off. Otherwise, we might get more than what we bargained for.
