Here’s Why Democrats' Lies About Crime Won’t Work

Remember when California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced back in June that he was joining Truth Social to call out “Republican Lies?” It would have probably been the funniest joke he has ever made. But he wasn’t joking.

Newsom seemed to actually believe that by joining former President Donald Trump’s social media platform, he would be able to persuade all the “MAGA extremists” to embrace progressivism and pack up and move to his socialist paradise. I suppose that with the Golden State losing so many residents, he has to try anything he possibly can, right?

But in his first post, he peddled one of the most commonly-used leftist deceptions about crime and red states. In a video clip, he said:

Hey everybody, it’s Governor Gavin Newsom and I know we’re all on this platform in search for the truth. But the truth is I have not been able to find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem. Eight of the top 10 states with the highest murder happen to be red states. So the question is simple: what are the laws and policies in those states that are leading to such carnage?

I called out his nonsense at the time. But RedState’s Bob Hoge also slammed the governor’s silly meanderings:

“As usual, the facts are not on the governor’s side. He’s claiming that policies by Republican politicians have led to this savagery, but he’s leaving out one inconvenient point: a huge number of these murders are occurring in Democrat-run blue cities like St. Louis and the newly-crowned murder capital of the U.S., New Orleans.”

But the question is: Why do so many leftists rely on this nonsensical argument when it is so easy to refute? They have to know that the red state crime thing is pure balderdash, right?

The answer is simple: Democrats know that many, if not most, Americans do not understand how government works in our country. Therefore, they are easier to fool with this talking point.

People on both the left and the right have lamented the fact that teaching civics is no longer much of a priority in public K-12 schools. Universities aren’t exactly doing a great job of teaching students how the government works in America either. This is why Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis awarded $6.5 million to launch Civics Academies in the state in order to get more young people involved in public service at all levels of government.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in 2018 showed that less than a quarter of eighth-grade students showed an adequate level of proficiency in civics. This trend has not yet been reversed, and since schools are more focused on transing children and indoctrinating them into far-leftist ideas on race, gender identity, and sexuality, it is unlikely to improve anytime soon.

But the fact of the matter is that Democrats are banking on the notion that most people don’t understand that local government is the entity responsible for fighting crime, not the state. Your mayor is the one tasked with combating illegal activity in your city rather than your governor.

And which party is in charge of the cities with the highest crime rates? You guessed it: Democrats.

It is folks on the left who favor soft-on-crime policies and district attorneys more concerned with releasing violent criminals onto the streets than protecting law-abiding civilians. These are the folks who demonize police by taking the corrupt actions of a few and applying them to the majority of officers. Democratic officials tout policies that result in economic conditions that lead to more illegal activity.

This is why they are forced to pretend that governors and state legislatures are the ones responsible for tamping down on crime. But at this point, I don’t think people are buying it. Polling shows that Americans favor Republicans over Democrats when it comes to crime. It’s why the GOP is running ads against Democratic candidates attacking them on their faulty crime policies. In the end, I don’t think voters will believe the left’s lies about criminal activity when they go to cast their ballots.
