Democrats Can’t Lie Their Way out of the Crime Issue

Democrats have been bravely dealing with surging crime rates by doing what they do best: Pretending it doesn’t exist. That’s right. After two years of villainizing police officers and promoting woke district attorneys who protect criminals, they realized they aren’t exactly winning on this issue.

Go figure.

Even though Americans have indicated that crime is one of the top priorities on their minds, Democrats haven’t come up with an answer. So, instead, they are trying to gaslight the public into believing they aren’t seeing what they are seeing.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, in an interview on MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” last week, referred to the crime issue as a “conspiracy” cooked up by Republicans trying to “convince people in Democratic states that they’re not as safe.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy also tried to downplay the crime issue, pretending that it is racist for Republicans even to bring it up. In a conversation on “Morning Joe,” he accused the GOP of playing “the crime card” and claimed, “it’s got racial elements to it.”

Democrats even trotted out failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to point the finger at Republicans. In an appearance on CNN, she peddled the left’s deceptive talking point about Republican states having the highest crime rates.

“The states with the highest crime levels are states run by Republicans. That’s just a fact! We saw that very clearly in the recent debate in Oklahoma,” she said.

I debunked that particular lie last month.

But now, the Heritage Foundation has also further destroyed the deceptive narrative Democrats are pushing ahead of the midterm elections. The organization published a report demonstrating that the vast majority of violent crime is taking place in cities run by Democrats.

“While a state’s murder rate is perhaps politically interesting, a more accurate reflection of what is actually happening on the ground is gained by reviewing localized murder rates, such as murder rates in a city or county. What does this review show?” the report noted. “Not surprisingly, of those 30 cities, 27 have Democratic mayors, the exceptions being Lexington and Jacksonville, which have Republican mayors, and Las Vegas, whose mayor is an Independent. And within those 30 cities there are at least 14 Soros-backed or Soros-inspired rogue prosecutors.”

The bottom line is that despite what Democrats and their comrades in the activist media say, Americans are not feeling safe in their neighborhoods. This is especially true of black Americans, who have made up the bulk of the victims in the rise of homicides that has occurred over the past two years.

As it turns out, defunding the police and focusing more on protecting criminals than civilians wasn’t a winning strategy. With the congressional elections only a few days away, it is clear the Democrats are scrambling to do whatever they can to minimize the damage they are set to receive.

Voters told Democrats what they wanted in poll after poll. But the politicians decided not to listen – at least not until it was too late. Their overtures towards cleaning up the streets are a day late and a dollar short, and they realize it. This is why they are hoping they can trick people into believing crime isn’t an issue.

But it’s not going to work. People don’t even need to see the numbers to know the rate of homicides has increased exponentially. But even further, they have seen firsthand that Democrats are unable or unwilling to take the matter seriously. Despite their best efforts, the left is not going to be able to lie their way out of this one.
