This is one of those “only in Texas” stories. In this episode, a couple found themselves locked in a fierce gunfight with some folks who were trying to rob a gas station. Luckily, the only one who was harmed was one of the bad guys.

This is one of those stories that the anti-gunner crowd would rather you didn’t see because it doesn’t exactly jibe with the narrative they seek to promote. Nevertheless, it happened, just as other similar incidents have all across the country.

Here’s how it went down:

An armed Texas couple got into a shootout with two would-be robbers at a gas station Tuesday, wounding one of the suspects, according to police.

The chaos erupted after a woman saw two men get out of separate cars with guns in the parking lot of the gas station in north Houston around 5:30 p.m., police told Fox 26.

The woman, who was armed, called her husband, who was also packing heat, to alert him of the danger while he was inside the store, cops said.

While the two suspects were trying to rob the place, one of the men threatened to kill the husband and hit him with a pistol and a gunfight broke out, police said.

One of the suspects was shot multiple times and the other fled in a green Dodge Charger.

Neither the husband or wife were injured.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the couple, who had called 911, holding the wounded suspect at gunpoint.

Mario Ipina Duque was shot several times by the man and woman. He is currently hospitalized in police custody.

The suspect was given medical attention at the scene before being taken to a hospital. Law enforcement detained the couple until it was decided that they acted in self-defense. Duque is being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

This is the type of story that makes me glad I live in a state like Texas, which isn’t dead set on making it harder for me to carry a firearm. While I pray I never find myself in a situation in which I have to use my gun, it is nice to know that I have it if the situation does arise.

As I stated previously, the anti-gunners try to keep a lid on these stories, rarely giving them as much national attention as a mass shooting would. The reason why is obvious: They don’t want us armed. In this situation, they would have rather the couple risk being shot and killed while they waited for government agents to show up. While the details of the case have not yet been released, statistics show that the likelihood that the would-be robbers were using guns they obtained illegally is very, very high. In fact, if I had a million dollars, I’d bet it all on the possibility that these folks did not go to a gun store, do a background check, and then purchase the firearms they wanted to use to rob the place. Fortunately, this couple understands the reality that their well-being depends on themselves and not the government. Let’s hope more Americans wake up.
