I recently interviewed my aunt, Alicea Jones, founder and executive director of Mommie Support Network, a nonprofit dedicated to providing resources, counseling, and mentorship to single mothers in Georgetown, Texas, who have fallen on hard times.

Alicea told me how her organization is working at the grassroots level to help single mothers and their children get on their feet by using a Christ-centered approach that gets others in the community involved. It was quite an enlightening interview!

This is the type of local community-focused effort that I have been preaching about for years. These private organizations can do far more to help those in need than the government. This is a worthy cause.

The organization is currently doing a fundraiser to expand its Adopt a Mom program, in which members of the community not only help with groceries and other needs but also provide mentoring. The objective is to provide more of a personal touch in which the organization can meet these individuals where they are.

If you want to help a worthy cause, and happen to like gourmet popcorn, you can check out the four-day fundraiser here. Not only will you get a tasty snack, but half of the proceeds will also go to the Mommie Support Network to help them continue their work with single mothers and their children. Check out the podcast, and let me know what you think!
