Rashida Tlaib Will Never Stop Lying About Israel

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) has been lying about the war between Israel and Hamas ever since the terrorist organization launched an attack on the Jewish state on October 7. Since then, the lawmaker has peddled numerous falsehoods about the conflict with impunity, even after they were debunked.

The most notable lie Tlaib has been spreading is related to the explosion that occurred at a hospital in Gaza City. Activist media outlets rushed to blame Israel for supposedly bombing the facility, using Hamas as their primary source. Other progressive politicians, including Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), condemned Israel for destroying the hospital.

Later, it was revealed that Israel had nothing to do with the incident and that the hospital building was not destroyed. Rather, the explosion occurred in the parking lot of the facility and was caused by a misfired rocket launched by another terrorist group.

Nevertheless, Tlaib persisted in lying about the matter.

Recently, RedState’s Sister Toldjah wrote about how the lawmaker recently wrote a post on X, formerly Twitter, in which continued to quadruple down on the lie.

“Media outlets and third-party analysts have raised doubts about claims and evidence offered by both Israel and the Gaza Ministry of Health, and I agree with the United Nations that an independent investigation is necessary. I cannot uncritically accept Israel’s denials of responsibility as fact, especially in light of confirmation from the World Health Organization that Israel has bombed numerous medical facilities in Gaza and reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society of ongoing threats from the Israeli military to evacuate hospitals.

“Both the Israeli and United States governments have long, documented histories of misleading the public about wars and war crimes—like last year’s Israeli military assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh and the false claims of weapons of mass destruction that led our country into the Iraq War—and cannot clear themselves of responsibility without an independent international investigation. This debate should not distract us from the urgent need for a ceasefire to save innocent civilian lives.”

So, given the evidence showing that Israel did not bomb the hospital, why would Tlaib continue spreading the false narrative, even after others walked back comments supporting it? There are a few reasons.

For starters, Tlaib represents the 12th District in Michigan, which has a very high Muslim population. It includes the city of Dearborn, which has had several pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel demonstrations. Last week, thousands of high school students walked out of classes to stage a protest in favor of the Palestinians.

Earlier this month, pro-Hamas activists held a rally in Dearborn in which speakers defended the terrorist organization while threatening to “burn” Israel until it meets its “demise.” One speaker said:

“We are not going to be intimidated by, stay silent when they say Hamas is a terrorist organization. The fact, it is not a terrorist organization…the terrorist is Benjamin Netanyahu and his government”

So, Tlaib does not have to worry about facing scrutiny from her constituents – they will likely continue supporting her.

Secondly, the press and other members of the chattering class have not called Tlaib out for spreading falsehoods about Israel. There has been a remarkable absence of op-eds and commentary coming from the left, taking her to task for her blatant dishonesty. It seems members of the press don’t seem to believe it is necessary to challenge Tlaib’s claims directly, which raises a question: Would they be silent if a prominent Republican lawmaker was speaking lies about the Palestinians?

Lastly, we have party dynamics. By and large, Democrats, including those who support Israel, have not criticized Tlaib over the issue. They have largely refrained from addressing the reality that a sitting member of Congress is openly lying to the public about a situation that is already controversial enough.

To be fair, there have been a few Democrats who have addressed the matter.

Tlaib and Omar had not deleted the tweets as of Wednesday afternoon, prompting criticism from fellow lawmakers, including Rep. Jared Moskowitz, who asked them to remove the tweets in his own post on X, formerly known as Twitter, and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), who said during a Senate hearing Wednesday Tlaib’s tweet “reads like false statements that we’ve seen from Hamas and other groups that want to foment hate and death in the region.”

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) did not mention his colleague by name but did condemn claims that Israel bombed the hospital.

Democratic lawmakers have not mentioned Tlaib or Omar by name but did criticize those who fault Israel for the blast without more information.

Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., did not mention any politicians by name but slammed "critics" of Israel Wednesday morning for jumping to conclusions on the hospital blast.

"Critics falsely accused Israel of deliberately bombing a hospital before the facts were known. Did any of these critics condemn Islamic Jihad for causing the hospital explosion? Did any retract the false accusation?" Torres wrote.

Still, Tlaib has not faced much backlash from Democrats in office. Her persistence in pushing a false narrative might seem like a reckless game, but in reality, it is not. She will likely never face any real accountability for deceiving the American public. This is why she has been lying about the conflict and will continue to do so.
