Of Course, the United Nations Won't Condemn Hamas Terrorists Who Raped Israeli Women

Nobody should be surprised by the United Nations Women’s group refusing to condemn Hamas terrorists for raping and otherwise sexually abusing Israeli women. Those who know the history of the agency’s history with Israel knows that this type of behavior is par for the course for the U.N., which has taken every opportunity it can to condemn Israel while coddling some of the most egregious human rights abusers on the world stage.

The reality is that the U.N. is a bastion for antisemites seeking to discredit the world’s only Jewish state while propping up its enemies.

I’m referring to a story detailing how U.N. Women, an organization ostensibly created to promote the rights of women all across the globe, deleted a social media post that criticized Hamas terrorists for raping, torturing, and slaughtering Israeli women.

UN Women were heavily criticized for their weeks-long silence following the October 7 massacre in Israel, which saw countless Israeli women raped, tortured, and murdered at the hands of Hamas terrorists. They initially paid lip service to the horrors inflicted upon these women -- a full week after the attacks -- by tweeting:

UN Women condemns the attacks on civilians in Israel & the Occupied Palestinian Territories, & is deeply alarmed by the devastating impact on civilians including women & girls. International Humanitarian Law & Human Rights Law must be respected & upheld.

The move was met with criticism from the right. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) lashed out at the organization for refusing to acknowledge the suffering of Jewish victims and straight out called out the U.N. for its antisemitism.

In October, about one week after Hamas’ October 7 assault on Israel, when the sexual assaults occurred, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) also slammed U.N. Women, referring to the group as “Hamas sympathizers” and pushed for defunding the organization.

Understanding the historical relationship between the U.N. and Israel sheds some light on why the organization would be loath to criticize terrorists raping Israeli civilians. Even recently, the United Nations General Assembly in 2022 passed more resolutions critical of Israel than it did against all other nations combined.

Specifically, 15 resolutions targeted the Jewish state while the remaining 13 were aimed at the rest of the world’s nations.

Russia was the focus of six resolutions condemning its invasion of Ukraine. North Korea, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Syria, Iran and the US were hit with one resolution each.

Saudi Arabia, China, Lebanon, Turkey, Venezuela and Qatar, which have poor human rights records or were involved in regional conflicts, were not dinged by any resolutions criticizing them.

So this means the U.N. believes Israel’s approach to the Palestinians, even when it is acting in self defense, is worse than how the governments of North Korea, China, Russia, and Iran have treated their citizens and those of other countries.

But it gets even worse:

Since 2015, the General Assembly has adopted 140 resolutions criticizing Israel, mainly over its treatment of the Palestinians, its relationships with neighboring countries and other alleged wrongdoings. Over the same period, it has passed 68 resolutions against all other countries, UN Watch said.

Given the atrocities each of these governments have participated in, the notion that Israel deserves most of the U.N.’s criticism is laughable. Russia routinely cracks down on freedom of speech and political dissent. Its government jails political opponents and journalists, and suppresses protests while censoring media.

North Korea’s communist government has a human rights record that is among the worst in the world. The state controls almost every aspect of citizens’ everyday lives. It maintains control through surveillance, censorship, suppressing speech, and brutally punishing dissent through executions, torture, forced labor, and other abuses.

China’s government is also one of the most oppressive and, like Russia and North Korea, suppresses dissent with violence while also censoring the media. Its treatment of ethnic minorities, especially in Tibet and Xinjiang, and the Uyghur Muslims, is nothing less than demonic.

Yet, the U.N. has not only had little to say about these atrocities, it has also given China, Russia, and other oppressive nations prominent seats on the security council. as well as other leadership positions.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s not exactly easy to deny that the U.N. is antisemitic. The organization doesn’t even try to conceal its bias. This is why I was not shocked to find out the agency avoided condemning the raping of Israeli women. Indeed, I was more surprised that they made the post in the first place before deleting it.

The United Nations has shown the world on many occasions that it cannot be trusted as an arbiter of peace, or even much of anything else. This is merely the latest example.
