Parental rights advocacy group Moms for Liberty has been in progressives’ crosshairs ever since it rose to prominence as a fierce opponent of efforts to indoctrinate students in schools. Members of the group have been demonized and smeared by folks on the left who believe children should belong to government-run schools and not their parents.

But now, at least one of them is striking back after being the target of a vicious smear campaign.

Nicole Marie Prussman, chairwoman of the Monroe County, Pennsylvania, chapter of the parental rights group, received a citation for harassment in April, after news reports of the charge came out in March.

Although a magistrate court judge initially found Prussman guilty without a proper fair trial, the case was dismissed on appeal when the state ruled that Prussman’s accuser failed to corroborate her alleged evidence.

Yet the news outlets that reported the charges against Prussman have not reported her acquittal. Now, the Coalition for Liberty, a nonprofit dedicated to combating cancel culture, will represent her in court as she goes on the offensive. The Coalition for Liberty has not clarified which individuals or entities it plans to sue on Prussman’s behalf, but it has vowed to bring litigation against anyone who broke the law in defaming her.

Prussman became the target of “a very organized hit job by a group called Stop Moms for Liberty,” Doug Turpin, president and board chair of Coalition for Liberty, told “The Daily Signal Podcast.” “They planned this. You can even see online how they were getting their members to plot to file harassment charges against Moms for Liberty all across the country. This was a deliberate attempt to cancel Nicole [Prussman] simply because she was speaking out on behalf of children because of inappropriate and highly sexual content.” (The Daily Signal has reached out to Stop Moms for Liberty for comment and this story will be updated to include any response.)

This narrative sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Media outlets publish false stories about certain people designed to smear them. Then, when their lies are exposed, they go on like nothing ever happened. In many cases, they don’t even bother to issue corrections or retractions. Even when they do, fewer people see the corrections, leaving many to continue believing the deceptions.

There is a reason why the press functions in this manner: The lack of accountability.

To put it simply, these people know they can brazenly lie about their targets without ever facing consequences. But in this case, Prussman appears to be making the right move and going on the offense. Through lawfare, those who become victims of false media narratives can fight back and possibly win. It is reminiscent of the Nick Sandmann story. After he was falsely smeared by CNN and other establishment media outlets, he sued and forced these entities into settlements.

This is what needs to happen every time the media perpetuates false narratives about individuals and organizations. Entities like the media and groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center have gotten away with their lies for far too long. In an era in which disinformation and false reporting are rampant, Prussman’s battle could be just as significant as Sandmann’s. Hopefully, her effort to hold these people accountable will be successful.
