O.J. Simpson, once an acclaimed football star and Hollywood personality, has been a controversial figure in America since he was acquitted of murdering his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, members of his family announced his death, noting that he “succumbed to his battle with cancer.”

The former football legend acknowledged his cancer diagnosis in 2023 after initially denying being in hospice. However, in recent appearances, it was apparent that his health was declining.

Before the murder allegations, Simpson had been a widely celebrated figure in American society for his exploits on the football field and his roles in movies and television.

In the 1990s, he was accused of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend in what was dubbed "The Trial of the Century.” It was a legal spectacle that divided the nation. After being acquitted, a civil court later found him liable for their deaths, a verdict that cast a shadow over the rest of his years. He was later convicted of armed robbery in 2007 and was paroled in 2017.

Despite the controversy hanging over him, he was still active on social media, chiming in on various topics and engaging with those in the public who were still willing to communicate with him. He leaves behind five children from his marriages.
