It Sure Seems Like the Trans Movement Isn't Winning

The other day, Adele got in a bit of trouble for the grave sin of being proud to be a woman.

As my colleague Brandon Morse explained, despite not saying anything about the trans movement or anything except how much she loves being a woman, the Artist of the Year was attacked online by trans activists.

Did Adele say that she hates the transgender community? No. Did she say that women are women and men can’t be women? Nope. The accusation is that by Adele saying she likes being a woman, she’s implying all sorts of negative things about transgenderism.

This is a ridiculous take by ridiculous people, who seem to be more concerned about finding an excuse to feel victimized than living in the real world and taking people’s words as they are.

This is, of course, crazy. Adele made her comment about womanhood while receiving Artist of the Year at the Brit Awards. It is an award that used to be gendered – there was a Male Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year, but the two were combined into one award. That means that Adele was the best artist of the year out of all men and all women who qualified. That’s a huge honor and as a woman in a still largely male-dominated industry, that’s amazing.

But because she said “I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist,” she apparently had to be dragged online. It’s completely nonsensical.

There is, however, something positive to note in all this. If they are this upset over these comments, then they clearly aren’t winning the culture war after all.

You don’t lose your mind and call a successful woman a “TERF” (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist) over those comments if you’re winning the social war. You don’t pull your hair out over jokes like Dave Chapelle’s if you are. You don’t go on a years-long crusade against J.K. Rowling, arguably the most successful female writer of all time, if you’re winning.

The entertainment and media industries, along with progressive activists have been working overtime to try to convince all of America that it’s all normal and okay and that you’re a transphobe if you question anything about the overly-aggressive trans movement. If you are concerned about men competing in women’s sports (not even against it, just questioning of it), you are a vile human being. If you are worried about men using women’s restrooms, you’re a paranoid jerk.

But society overall still seems to be more hesitant than accepting. Not because society is evil, but because these activists are trying to push society somewhere uncomfortable. Somewhere that is untested and still in many ways worrisome. They want to push society into accepting discussing gender identity with elementary school students. Not to mention the other issues.

That they are freaking out over Adele’s comments, despite her not even mentioning the trans community or trans issues, is a sign that they aren’t in the majority. They are freaking out over binary sex. They are worried that if the most influential celebrities are speaking in binary terms, then they won’t be able to become the majority.

That terrifies them to no end. Hence their insane response.
