When Barack Obama did the bidding of his union bosses by unilaterally declaring the Senate in recess and appointing three members to his National Labor Relations Board, he probably did not realize the fall out to his actions–or perhaps he did.
Nevertheless, since the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Obama’s imperial actions were unconstitutional, employers have decided to engage in a form of civil disobedience.
Now, as the issue gets taken to the U.S. Supreme Court, House Republicans have introduced legislation to prevent further NLRB actions to confuse America’s workplaces.

The law requires a labor board that functions properly and acts responsibly. Without it, the rights of workers are diminished and employers and unions are left in legal limbo. While the president is ultimately responsible for fixing the crisis he created, Congress cannot stand by and allow a dysfunctional board to wreak havoc in the nation’s workplaces. The Preventing Greater Uncertainty in Labor-Management Relations Act (H.R. 1120) responds to the ongoing legal chaos surrounding the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

The Service Employees International Union filed a complaint against the Los Cerritos Community News over an advertisement the paper ran depicting a City Council candidate as a communist sympathizer.

A local steelworkers union is claiming that Caterpillar Inc. is using Milwaukee Area Technical College in a “union-busting drive” by having the college train salaried employees how to do the jobs of hourly workers.
United Steelworkers Local 1343 sent a letter to MATC officials asking the school to stop training local Caterpillar Inc. employees to weld, which the union views as training scabs for a potential strike this spring.

It’s not the business of the UAW if its members are doing drugs on the weekend, so long as they are sober when they come to work Monday morning.
That revelation came during a hearing over legislation that would make an individual ineligible for unemployment benefits if he or she failed a drug test or refused to take one.
Is reform finally coming to Rhode Island?
Mayor Allan Fung Wednesday said he has reached a tentative agreement with Laborers’ Union Local 1322 for a three-year contract beginning July 1.
The contract is the second to eliminate costly pension benefits for new employees and offer a contribution retirement plan to some existing employees, Fung said. The contracts and benefits are more in line with those offered in the private sector, he said.
