Bill de Blasio being Bill de Blasio. Donald Trump being Donald Trump. Grab the popcorn, folks —things are about to get interesting.

The New York City mayor not only moved ahead Thursday with his earlier-announced plan to have a mural with the words “Black Lives Matter” painted on Fifth Avenue, right in front of Trump Tower; the embattled mayor is doing some of the painting, his own petty self.

As reported by NBC News in New York:

New York City is painting a sprawling “Black Lives Matter” mural on Fifth Avenue directly in front of Trump Tower Thursday, picking up a delayed project that President Donald Trump has blasted as a “symbol of hate.”

The city closed off Fifth Avenue from 56th to 57th streets early Thursday as the work got underway. Mayor Bill de Blasio along with the Rev. Al Sharpton joined the effort late Thursday morning, both helping to paint the letter “L” in lives as onlookers chanted “Black Lives Matter.”

“Our city isn’t just painting the words on Fifth Avenue. We’re committed to the meaning of the message,” de Blasio tweeted Thursday as he painted.

A police official said that the street could be closed for a number of days to complete the project.

The mural initially was supposed to be done last week but was pushed back a few days; it’s one of five that will be created in each of the city’s five boroughs.

President Trump was justifiably not happy when de Blasio first announced the project, as he angrily tweeted at the time.

Mayor de Blasio fired back — all-caps included, for “effect” of course — admonishing Trump that black people “BUILT 5th Ave and so much of this nation,” with “THEIR labor,” as well as Donald’s “luxury.”

So by de Blasio’s “logic,” apparently everything that black people built in America should be labeled with “Black Lives Matter,” suggesting that everything built by “white people” should be be labeled, “White Lives Matter”? Or maybe “All Lives Matter” at least?

Sarcasm aside, Bill de Blasio, who has been under attack from all sides throughout his contentious term as mayor of NYC, has really had it handed to him — justifiably so — since the early weeks of the Wuhan virus pandemic, as his city became America’s epicenter, and continuing throughout the “George Floyd” riots, as NYPD officers stood by, with zero direction from City Hall, as the burning and looting continued.

Yet this spectacularly-failed mayor chooses to focus on pettiness, disingenuously peddled as a public display of “social justice.” Go figure.
