The USPS Lunacy Continues: Democrat Lawmaker ‘Chains’ Himself to Mailbox: Trump’s ‘Not Getting This One!’

As the Democrats continue to charge that Donald Trump wants to do away with the US Postal Service, a Democrat Congressman from Oregon (where else?) has come up with a “unique” way to demonstrate his opposition to Trump — by “chaining” himself to a mailbox.

Rep. Peter DeFazis, who represents Oregon’s 4th Congressional District (in which the left-wing college town of Eugene is located) “chained” himself to the mailbox on Tuesday, in defiance of the Trump administration’s proposed changes to the the USPS.

As reported by The Blaze, the Congressman has recently been on a mission.

Rep. Peter DeFazio has been on a social media tirade in recent days, claiming that President Donald Trump “is intentionally trying to destroy the United States Postal Service (USPS) to steal the election,” and insisting to his followers that “we can’t let it stand!”

On Tuesday, the Oregon Democrat posted a video to his Twitter feed showing a sparkling-new chain loosely draped over his shoulder and wrapped around a public mail box, while he declares, “They’re not gettin’ this one!”

DeFazio defiantly declared:

“They’re trying to tear apart our Postal Service piece by piece. But Peter DeFazio is defending our right to vote (and every mailbox in America).”

Cute political stunt. Thing is, even though DeFazio was clearly not chained to the mailbox, his silliness demonstrated the hyperbolic lunacy of the Democrats over proposed changes to the post office.

While Democrats charge Trump wants eliminate mail-in voting — or at the very least discredit its legitimacy  — because he’s behind in the polls and fears he’ll lose in November, Trump claims the 2020 election will be “totally rigged,” if it’s “allowed to take place.”

The conspiracy theory espoused by the Democrats heated up during the COVID pandemic. As The Blaze noted:

The USPS has acknowledged it is experiencing a “staggering loss of mail volume” since COVID-19 hit. In the meantime, President Trump has condemned the widespread utilization of mail-in voting for the November general election, while his administration has proposed cost-saving measures for the postal service.

Au contraire, as the lefties see it.

As my RedState colleague Nick Arama reported on Monday in a piece titled The Mania Continues: Liberals Meltdown With New ‘Evidence’ of the Postal Conspiracy, left-wingers were convinced that mailboxes were locked in Burbank, California, and post office lobbies were locked — ordered by Trump, of course — in an “immediate threat to American democracy.”

The fly in the conspiracy ointment? As Nick Arama noted, the red covers have been in place since at least 2016 after the last pick up of the day, to prevent the theft of mail. Moreover? All one need do is walk to the other side of the box and drop in the mail.

In response to the Democrat outcry, embattled Post Master General Louis Dejoy on Tuesday announced he was “suspending” policies blamed by Democrats for slowing down mail delivery ahead of the November elections, as reported by the Washington Times.

The postmaster, who is days away from questioning by Senate and House panels, vowed that there will be no changes to retail hours at post offices, processing equipment, mailbox locations and overtime policies for U.S. Postal Service employees.

President Trump and Mr. DeJoy have insisted that proposed changed were aimed at improving the long-suffering USPS and speed up mail service. The changes, however, got tangled in the partisan wrangling over expanded mail-in voting to avoid spreading the coronavirus during the November elections.

“The Postal Service is ready today to handle whatever volume of election mail it receives this fall,” Mr. DeJoy said in a statement.

“I came to the Postal Service to make changes to secure the success of this organization and its long-term sustainability. I believe significant reforms are essential to that objective, and work toward those reforms will commence after the election.

Nonetheless, Democrats will no doubt continue their unfounded histrionics. As my RedState colleague Jennifer Van Laar reported on Sunday, Nancy Pelosi reduced herself to trotting out one of the Democrats’ favorite go-to fear tactics: Evil Republican threats to Social Security checks:

As part of the rush to mania, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took to Twitter Sunday to urge her caucus to come back to Washington and save the USPS – and retirees’ Social Security checks – from this relentless assault.

As the lunacy continues, at least Democrats like Peter DeFazio provide a bit of humor along the way — albeit unintentionally. Sometimes, Democrat “symbolism over substance” mocks itself. How can that not be fun to watch?
