Major University Rolls out 'Harmful Information' Guide, Drops a No-No on Calling U.S. Citizens 'Americans'

I long ago passed the point of being surprised by anything the now-radical left says or does. Granted, the left’s crazy-train nonsense stretches from the unthinkable to wildly hilarious, but this example falls somewhere in between.

So yeah, as Fox News reported, Stanford University has published an index of “harmful language” it plans to eliminate from the school’s websites and computer code, offering terms to be used as replacements. Bet you can’t wait for all of that wisdom, right?

The Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative is a “multi-phase, multi-year project to address harmful language in IT at Stanford,” according to the guide, which says the goal of the initiative is to eliminate “many forms of harmful language,” including “racist, violent, and biased (e.g., disability bias, ethnic bias, ethnic slurs, gender bias, implicit bias, sexual bias) language…” The guide further explains that the initiative “strives to educate people on the impact of words.”

Ah, to be “educated” by our country’s top “educators.” Is there anything better? Lemme fix that last quoted sentence, above:

“The initiative strives to program programmable college students with the misbelief that common, acceptable language demonstrates arrogance, imperialistic tendencies, xenophobia, racism, and a bunch of other awful things, and therefore unacceptable. Please explain the “education” part of that to me.

Spoiler: the examples that follow are off-the-chart ridiculous, so I advise you to abstain from your beverage of choice while reading further, lest you spit it all over your screen.

There are 10 “harmful language” sections outlined in the index: ableist, ageism, colonialism, culturally appropriative, gender-based, imprecise language, institutionalized racism, person-first, violent and additional considerations. Here’s more, via Fox:

Under the ableist section, the index urges people to use “accessible parking” instead of “handicap parking,” “died by suicide” instead of “committed suicide” and “anonymous review” instead of “blind review.” It also says people should use “unenlightened” as a replacement for “tone deaf,” and a “person with a substance abuse disorder” as a replacement for “addict.”

Not to nitpick, but what the hell difference does it make if we refer to an addict as “a person with a substance abuse disorder”? Anecdotally, I know several people closely who not only refer to themselves as recovering addicts; they do so proudly. Sugarcoating addiction with “less offensive” left-wing labels doesn’t lessen the seriousness of the addiction, regardless of whether it makes the crazy-train left feel better about itself, or not.

Let’s get to my “favorite” section of the guide: the imprecise language section, with is absolutely hilarious.

According to the geniuses behind the “harmful information” guide, it’s now harmful to call U.S. citizens Americans. Why? Because doing so implies that by using the term “Americans,” we arrogantly believe we’re “the most important country in the Americas.”  That is an utter crock of crap.

Setting aside the reality that the U.S. is the most important country in the Americas — for multiple reasons — America is also the most important country on the planet. Why? Because America is all that stands between Communist China and to a lesser degree, Vladimir Putin’s massive cache of nuclear weapons — with which he could blackmail the whole of Europe and beyond, were it not for the most important country on the planet.

Moreover? Ask every other country in the Americas —along with most if all of the free world — and you’ll get the same answer (unless you’re talking to France) from those that answer honestly.

Next up, the imprecise language section:

“Abort,” which should be replaced with “cancel” or “end,” because of “moral concerns” about abortion. This makes zero sense. Moral concerns about intentionally killing an unborn until the moment that child would’ve been born are not going to vanish by changing the label of what it’s called by the left.

“Child prostitute,” which should be replaced with “a child who has been trafficked,” so the person “is not defined by just one characteristic.” This one does make sense; unless an underage person actually engages in prostitution, which, unfortunately, isn’t a rarity.

“Karen,” which should be replaced with “demanding or entitled white woman.” Hold the bus. I’ve seen several Karens in action, not all of whom were white, or even female. Karens are Karens, regardless of color, race, ethnicity, or gender. They are Karens because of their Kareness

Let’s do two more sections, beginning with the gender-based section, via Fox:

[T]he index says “pronouns” should be used instead of “‘preferred’ pronouns” because “preferred” suggests “non-binary gender identity is a choice and a preference.” The section further advises against words like “freshman,” “fireman” and “congresswoman” because the “gender binary language” does not include everyone.

These clowns ultimately not only want to rewrite history — selectively,  of course — but also the entire English language. That might be a bit of a stretch, but labels are very important to the left; they always have been. Why? Because it allows liberals to use code words to communicate entire false perceptions to their rank-and-file, low-information voters. As I’ve written, many times, the Democrat Party has handily beaten the GOP at messaging for six decades or more.

Anyway, we can’t close without hitting the institutionalized racism section — which has become the top rallying cry of the left.

[A]void using words like “black hat,” “black mark” and “black sheep” because of “negative connotations to the color black.” It also says to avoid using “grandfathered” and use “legacy status” instead, because of “roots in the ‘grandfather clause’ adopted by Southern states to deny voting rights to Blacks.”

Four words: Politics of racial division.

Among the Democrat Party’s “highlights” were President Lyndon Johnson’s disastrous 1965 War on Poverty, Barack “If I Had a Son He’d Look Like Trayvon” Obama intentionally dividing Americans along racial lines (with a healthy assist from Michelle), and of course the current obscene lies of Joe Biden and today’s Democrat Party.

Yet, here we have these clowns in the no-longer-hallowed halls of academia warning us about the danger of Americans calling themselves Americans. Go figure.
