WATCH: Stephanopoulos Goes Off on Trump in Hysterical 'What's at Stake' in Presidential Election Spiel

Townhall Media

As polls continue to suggest a Donald Trump win in the November presidential election, the quasi-official Democrat Party media continue to come more unglued over the prospect. ABC News' "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos was a perfect example on Sunday.

Stephanopoulos kicked off his show with a hysterical "what's at stake" take on the 2024 presidential election that was as popcorn-worthy as could be. And as to be expected, it was all about the unprecedented evils of the former president.

Good morning, and welcome to This Week. Until now, no American president had ever faced a criminal trial. No American president had ever faced a federal indictment for retaining and concealing classified documents.

No American president had ever faced a federal indictment or a state indictment for trying to overturn an election, or been named an unindicted co-conspirator in two other states for the same crime. No American president ever faced hundreds of millions of dollars in judgments for business fraud, defamation and sexual abuse.

Uh-huh. And no American president has had boxes of classified documents haphazardly stored in his garage, either. Oh, and no American president has had the Secret Service confirm that cocaine was found in the White House, so there's that.

Stephanopoulos continued, in melodramatic fashion:

Until now, no American presidential race had been more defined by what's happening in courtrooms than what is happening on the campaign trail. Until now. The scale of the abnormality is so staggering that it can actually become numbing.

It's all too easy to fall into reflective habits— to treat this as a normal campaign where both sides embrace the rule of law, where both sides are dedicated to a debate based on facts and the peaceful transfer of power.

OK, I'm game, George.

Until now, no American presidential race has been more defined by an illegal alien crisis on America's southern border. No American presidential race has been more defined by an incumbent being up to his eyeballs in solid allegations of influence peddling, serial lying, and a steadily declining cognitive capacity — and no American president has ever been prosecuted by his successor.

Hey, that was fun; let's keep playing.

Stephanopoulos continued:

But that is not what's happening this election year. Those bedrock tenets of our democracy are being tested in a way we haven't seen since the Civil War. It's a test for the candidates, for those of us in the media, and for all of us as citizens.

No doubt. My turn:

The bedrock tenets of our democracy are being tested in a way we've never seen because we have a president who intentionally created the aforementioned illegal alien crisis, the consequences of which continue to spread across the country.

We have a president who panders to a minute percentage of the population at the expense of the greater good, including males beating the hell out of females in sporting events, so-called "gender fluidity," and self-selected pronouns, and irreversible mutilation of young people's bodies, including double mastectomies and castrations.

We have a president who supports on-demand abortion until the moment of birth, and — I could go on.

And, George? Please spare us with the "test for those of us in the media" nonsense. Those of you in the quasi-official Democrat Party media long ago failed the test of responsible objective journalism.

The Bottom Line

George Stephanopoulos is the quintessential example of left-wing pretend journalism that has metastasized throughout America. Sometimes court jester, other times hood ornament of the liberal media clown car, the guy has become a disingenuous, self-unaware caricature of himself.

Toss in Stephanopoulos's Trump Derangement Syndrome affliction, and there it is: a D.C. Beltway hack who couldn't be more out of touch with the reality of 2024 America.
