Well, look at this

Former IRS tax-exempt director Lois Lerner ran the agency’s policy on conservative groups. Kevin Kennedy runs the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board (GAB) that helped prosecutors with their secret John Doe investigation of conservative groups after the 2011 and 2012 recall elections of Governor Scott Walker and state senators.

Emails we’ve seen show that between 2011 and 2013 the two were in contact on multiple occasions, sharing articles on topics including greater donor disclosure and Wisconsin’s recall elections. The emails indicate the two were also personal friends who met for dinner and kept in professional touch. “Are you available for the 25th?” Ms. Lerner wrote in January 2012. “If so, perhaps we could work two nights in a row.”

…and call me shocked (full disclosure: I’m not shocked at all). The significance of this relationship, as the Wall Street Journal helpfully goes on to note, is that Lerner and Kennedy were both engaged in the same kind of wickedness. It was Lerner’s job to harass and stymie national conservative groups; and it was Kevin Kennedy’s to risk Wisconsin teenagers getting shot because of who their parents were.  So the question becomes: did the two ever get together to compare notes, trade enemy lists, revel in inflicting pain on others, that sort of thing?

Why, that’s a very interesting question. One that should be asked, and enforced with contempt of Congress charges that result in government bureaucrats cooling their heels in DC holding cells – the kind used by the general criminal population – until said bureaucrats start answering it. And do not suggest that I’m being too hard-nosed about this: it’s frankly a special miracle that Lerner and Kennedy never actually got anyone killed. Their behavior is simply not acceptable at all.

PS: In case this wasn’t clear: if you still enjoy the thought of having the GAB trample all over American citizens’ freedom of speech in a manner that was always just one bad decision away from a kid shot dead in his own home… you are a bad person, and you should stay away from decent people until you either reform, or else die of old age.
