IG Report: FISA Warrants Were 'Inaccurate, Incomplete, and Unsupported'

While the Inspector General’s report found that the surveillance was precipitated by the tip-off from a foreign government, meaning the tip from the Australian government, the report found that the Steele Dossier played an outsized role in getting the FISA warrant and that the justification for the surveillance was riddled with errors and inaccuracies.

The report called the FISA warrants against Carter Page “inaccurate, incomplete, and unsupported.”

From USA Today:

The Justice Department’s internal watchdog found the controversial surveillance of a Trump campaign adviser was riddled with errors, raising questions about its justification.

The voluminous report, released Monday by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, identified 17 separate inaccuracies across three surveillance applications, effectively inflating the justification for monitoring former foreign policy adviser Carter Page starting in the fall of 2016.

The IG said he would be opening another investigation into how the FBI goes about getting FISA warrants after calling out the process they used here.

So he’s calling out the process as false but is anyone actually going to suffer any consequences for their actions?

Despite that, the IG report tried to ‘split the baby’ and, as anticipated, did conclude that there was no “documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced the FBI’s decision to conduct these operations.”

Barr disagreed with the conclusion that the probe was justified.

“The inspector general’s report now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken,” Barr said.

Barr is overseeing a parallel criminal investigation into the origins of the Russia probe.

It’s incredible to believe that there can be a conclusion that something isn’t biased based upon all the texts of Strzok and Page, not to mention it was built upon Democratic opposition research, paid for from Russians, and then weaponized through the FBI.

Let’s hope the Durham investigation will hold people responsible.
