What do you think the proper response should be to the death of George Floyd and the ensuing protests and riots?

Guessing that, at a time when many people’s lives and businesses are being threatened, it isn’t to defund the police.

But that’s exactly what far left celebrities like John Legend, Megan Rapinoe, Common, the Weeknd, Lizzo, Jane Fonda and Anthony Romero, the executive director of the ACLU, were pushing by signing a petition to defund police across the country.

The petition called for defunding the police and increasing spending on things like a national healthcare system. According to the petition, the “uprisings” are connected to COVID-19.

It is important to state this within the context of the scourge of anti-Black police terror and the resulting uprisings taking place across the U.S. The COVID-19 deaths and the deaths caused by police terror are connected and consequential to each other. The United States does not have a national healthcare system. Instead, we have the largest military budget in the world, and some of the most well-funded and militarized police departments in the world, too. Policing and militarization overwhelmingly dominate the bulk of national and local budgets. In fact, police and military funding has increased every single year since 1973, and at the same time, funding for public health decreased every year, crystallized most recently when the Trump administration eliminated the US Pandemic Response Team in 2018, citing “costs”.

The time has come to defund the police. [….]

We join in solidarity with the freedom fighters in Minneapolis, Louisville, and across the United States. And we call for the end to police terror.

We call for defunding of police and for those dollars to be rerouted to create a public national healthcare system.

Notice the language. Can it be any clearer? They are taking credit for the “uprisings” and calling people “freedom fighters.” This is who the celebrities are supporting by signing this petition and as we previously reported, providing bail money for.

Defunding the police has been a radical left/BLM idea for years. If you eliminate police, then police can’t kill any black people. Of course that doesn’t stop the chief killer of black people which is not police, it’s young black males. Never mind that if you thought there was chaos now, wait until you no longer have police. If you thought black lives were endangered now, that would be a horror show.

The folks behind the petition repeat the debunked claim that President Donald Trump eliminated the pandemic response team. The head of the team himself, Tim Morrison, said that wasn’t true. But it’s particularly ironic that they see a connection with the coronavirus, since many of the rioters are running around without masks and without social distancing. Had they done this just a week before the riots while demanding to be able to go back to work, they would have been excoriated by those on the left as wanting to “kill Grandma” for not wearing masks or social distancing. Now, it’s all cool and apparently rioting is more important that those folks who just wanted to make a living.
