Elon Has Great Laugh as Libs of TikTok Turns the Tables on Taylor Lorenz Over Twitter Monetization

As we reported on Thursday, many creators on Twitter were posting about how Twitter had given them ad revenue money.

That’s not just one month, as Twitter owner Elon Musk explained; it’s since February when he announced that he would be giving creators a share of the ad revenue.

Guess who suddenly seemed deeply pained by all this money flying around? The Washington Post’s Taylor Lorenz. She messaged Libs of TikTok to ask if she got any payout. LTT’s response was perfect.

LTT responded by telling her that it was none of her business.

Lorenz wanted to know if her relationship with Twitter had “soured.”

LTT joked no — that she was dating Elon Musk. She asked Lorenz, “Please don’t tell anyone because we’re keeping it quiet. You have a name for being very trustworthy and honest so I know I can trust you with this information.” Oh, my, what a great response to Lorenz, who reportedly even went to the home of LTT’s family members when she was trying to figure out who she was.

Lorenz said LTT still hadn’t responded to the question, and that’s when LTT turned the tables on her, asking:

I’m writing a story on people who suffer from Elon Derangement Syndrome and refused to pay for a blue check and/or took a lot of their content off Twitter. I’m curious if they have any regrets now that they’re seeing creators get massive cash payouts. Can you give a comment as I believe you fit this category?

“No,” Lorenz replied. I know it’s a direct message, but you could almost hear the snippiness in the response, which was just gold.

Elon loved it.

Lorenz continued to melt down, claiming that right-wing creators and “anti-LGBTQ accounts” were benefiting.

The title of her story was “Far right Twitter influencers first on Elon Musk’s monetization scheme.”

But even liberal influencer Ed Krassenstein called this out as a “terrible piece of journalism.”

As well he should since he was one of the highest-paid people from the Twitter monetization payout. He notes that Lorenz tries to paint this as a sudden event when Musk announced it in February.

All of the influencers were not “far right influencers,” unless you consider myself and Brian Krassenstein to be “far right.” We both received more than any of those individuals mentioned in Taylor’s article. Mr. Beast ($25K) also received about the same as Brian and I. He definitely is not “far right.”

5) At the time of Taylor Lorenz’s article, several left-leaning people had already tweeted that they were paid, including ourselves and Katherine Brodsky, but she claims in the article that “So far, the influencers who have publicly revealed that they’re part of the program are prominent figures on the right.” At the time, Brian’s tweet about his payment had already received over 5 million impressions.

This article was very bad reporting on behalf of the Washington Post and Taylor Lorenz, and that’s coming from someone who normally likes the WaPo.

Not to mention that Lorenz terms everyone who is on the right as “far right” as a pejorative, whether they are “far right” or not.

Hey, what do facts matter? It’s about taking a crack at folks on the right, Twitter, and Musk. But it just hilariously turned back around on Lorenz.
