Biden Goes to View Florida Hurricane Damage, Then Laughs, Makes Weird Comment When Asked About DeSantis

Joe and Jill Biden traveled to Florida earlier on Saturday to view the damage from Hurricane Idalia and meet with first responders.  This, in the face of questions about whether he would be in the way, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis not meeting with him because DeSantis is dealing with the hurricane. DeSantis said such a visit would be "very disruptive." So much has to be provided to accommodate Biden whenever he goes anywhere, it's a huge production that they don't have time for and could interfere with what they have to do with the hurricane. That's why, usually, you don't conduct such a visit this early.

As Biden was heading out to Florida, he did say one good thing -- that he was going to "take care of Florida."  Hopefully, he means that in a positive way and not the way they "took care" of Maui.

But when he was asked about DeSantis, it went downhill.

"I don't think he's going to be there," Biden said.

When asked if he agreed with DeSantis that "the whole security apparatus" of his visit could interfere in Florida's efforts to deal with the hurricane, Biden smirked, laughed, and weirdly asked the reporter, "Do you?"

I don't get it. Most people know how to deal with the question of disasters -- shut up, be serious, and put your pettiness aside. And stay out of the way. But Biden can't seem to do that. He has to try to be snotty to DeSantis, who is dealing with a disaster. It isn't about your photo-op, Biden has nothing to offer, apart from more FEMA money and help; his presence at this critical time is questionable. It's basically just a three-hour photo-op, and he's out of there.

But how clueless is it to have Biden come, and then pretend like DeSantis is the bad guy because he doesn't take the time out from dealing with the crisis to meet with Biden? As we keep saying about Biden, as the people of Hawaii said, hey, it's not all about you. Other things are more important. Yet, even in his FEMA briefing on the hurricane three days ago, he again repeated the wild false tales about the damage to his house from a small fire in 2004. He claimed half of his house "almost collapsed." The fire department said it was a kitchen fire, put out in 20 minutes.

Biden ended up going to Live Oak, which his people claimed was in a condition that he could visit, and planned an aerial tour. While DeSantis will not be meeting with Biden; Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) will.

Here's the thing. You don't have to go to a disaster to show you care. Provide the aid, provide the help, and don't get in the way. Then maybe go a week or two later, when people can deal with your visit. This is just nonsensical, and he's doing it because he screwed up so badly with his responses over the Maui fires. And maybe, it's also because he thinks it will serve him well for votes with people in Florida.

After his brief photo-op, he will then be back to the beach for more vacation at his home in Rehoboth Beach.
