The Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, instructed the walls of the Old City be lit up with projections of Old Glory next to the Israeli flag Tuesday night.

The gesture was in appreciation of President Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and plan to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv.

The Bridge of Strings, which is located at the entrance of Jerusalem was also lit up in the colors of the American flag.

In a statement, Mayor Barkat said, “As a gesture and expression of the courageous friendship between the American people and the people of Israel, we decided to project the American and Israeli flags onto the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City, the ultimate symbol of the strength of the Jewish people’s connection to Jerusalem for over 3,000 years.”
