That’s the message the activist left is sending outgoing DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen this week in various high-profile campaigns designed to keep her unemployed in the private sector. Why? Because of her participation in the so-called “child separation” southern border immigration policy.
I wrote about this issue in depth Monday at Legal Insurrection, but since then some big players with large audiences have added their voices to the campaigns.
Most notably: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14). In response to a tweet from liberal Rolling Stone senior writer Jamil Smith calling for Nielsen to be branded a “pariah for life”, AOC tweeted the following message on Tuesday:
In stealing 1000s of children, deporting their parents,& refusing to provide info for reunification, Sec. Nielsen oversaw one of the largest-scale human rights violations in recent history.
Awarding her a lucrative deal or prestigious post is to legitimize+celebrate that abuse. https://t.co/f2cgDXI48B

Unfortunately, she’s not the only one. The mainstream media are helpfully amplifying this disturbing campaign by publishing similar propaganda in the form of opinion pieces, like liberal Michelle Goldberg’s at the New York Times and Tufts University Professor Dan Drezner’s at the Washington Post.
As Vox reports, the list of
regressive fascists people who share the opinions of AOC, Goldberg, Drezner and others is growing:
Kirstjen Nielsen is out of a job. Now some scholars want to make sure she doesn’t get a new one — at least, not anywhere near them.
A handful of scholars and media figures have signed a petition, written on Monday by George Washington University political scientist Henry Farrell, vowing not to “associate myself in any way” with any think tank or university department that employs the homeland security secretary, who resigned on Sunday.
Even some libertarians are getting in on the lynch mobbery:
“It’s frustrating watching people who do evil with official sanction welcomed back into polite society, as though the infliction of suffering is just another fascinating life experience, and the defense of pointless cruelty one more interesting perspective to engage,” Julian Sanchez, a senior fellow at the libertarian Cato Institute who signed the letter, tells me. “If someone caged children as a hobby, they’d rightly be treated like a godd*mn pariah by everyone. If you make it a vocation, you can look forward to a [Harvard] Kennedy School chair. It’s diseased, and I don’t want to play along.”
And if you think this campaign is designed just to keep Nielsen out of think tanks and prestigious universities – or if you think this doesn’t extend beyond Nielsen, think again. One signatory to the Farrell petition wrote this:
“Like everyone who’s agreed to work for Trump, Nielsen should be permanently shunned from public life.”
Not sure if this is the same Evan Gottlieb who is a professor at Oregon State University, but since the petition is being signed by academics and the like, I assume that’s who it is (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong).
The activist left under the leadership of pseudo-intellectuals like Ocasio-Cortez, Rep, Maxine Waters, and other militantly left wing Democrats are waging a very dangerous game of Total War here over political disagreements. But if that’s where they want to go, they shouldn’t be surprised when these types of campaigns are eventually turned around and used against them, like this, for example:
The lock-step support Congressional Democrats have had for abortion on demand for decades now has killed millions of unborn children and destroyed more families than U.S. immigration policy has. Anyone who continues to vote for pro-abortion Democrats, or who hires them once they’re out of office not only legitimizes the mass murder of innocent unborn life but also celebrates it. They should be pariahs for life. No matter where they sleep, eat, travel, or try to make a living.
See how this works? Two can play at this game, #Resistance mobs. Your rules.
