As Thomas LaDuke wrote Saturday, liberal comedian/TV talk show host Bill Maher absolutely ripped into Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), their supporters, the media, and the BDS movement Friday night for their phony outrage over Israel announcing last Thursday they were barring the two Congresswomen entry into the country.
For background, here’s a recap of how the segment went down, via Fox News:
“It’s a bulls— purity test, BDS is a bulls— purity test by people who want to appear ‘woke’ but actually slept through history class,” Maher said, drawing loud cheers from the audience. “It’s predicated on this notion … I think it’s very shallow thinking that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and Palestinians are mostly brown, so they must be innocent and correct and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this ‘completely peaceful people’ found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”
The HBO star quoted BDS movement founder Omar Barghouti, who said, “No Palestinian — rational Palestinian, not a sellout Palestinian — will ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.”
“So that’s where that comes from, this movement. Someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all,” Maher told the panel. “Somehow this side never gets represented in the American media. It’s very odd.”
“I see why [Omar and Tlaib] don’t get a hero’s welcome,” he added.
Maher continued discussing the BDS issue with the three panelists, which included the Daily Beast‘s Betsy Woodruff, New York Times journalist Carl Hulse and Never Trumper Rick Wilson. Hulse and Wilson are normally not shy about expressing their opinions whether you like it or not, but they showed uncharacteristic restraint for most of this particular segment. Odd.
Tlaib, who loves to warn people who disagree with her to shut-up, demanded a boycott of Maher’s show in response because of course:
Maybe folks should boycott his show.
I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom. This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn't work then and it won't now. https://t.co/Oa49ZVfrVN

“Woke” liberals like Justice Democrats proponent Cenk Uygur are enraged over Maher calling BDS for what it is:
Many don’t know the #Squad is a construct of a new lobbying group, Justice Democrats. An architect is media host Cenk Uygur. He lays bare his anti-Israel hate in attacking @BillMaher for comedian’s impt calling out of BDS as “bullshit purity test.” #honorbrgade out in full force pic.twitter.com/7s2PzmKiMB

Twitter users read Tlaib the riot act over her lies and her approach to disagreement:
Rashida Tlaib wants to boycott Bill Maher because he dared to point out that BDS targets the world's only Jewish state in order to eliminate it, which is antisemitic… Of course, antisemites never like it when people call a spade a spade. https://t.co/1HdMqDfI0V

And we're tired of folks claiming a tactic disguised as a "form of speech" is centered on equality and freedom when it is financed and run by the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces (a coalition of 12 major designated terror orgs incl Hamas, PFLP and PIJ). https://t.co/LYQkyCPzdw

BDS has nothing to do with equality and justice for the Palestinians, neither of which you care about.
It is simply a racist movement, to vilify and ultimately, destroy, the Jewish state (Israel). That’s what you care about!

I frequently disagree with Maher. He’s wrong probably 95% of the time. But on the BDS movement, he was spot on. Tlaib can continue to try and shame people on the left and right who dare to expose the poisonous anti-Semitic rhetoric she and Omar use, but that will only make those same people louder.
