In spite of the non-stop impeachment pushes, smear campaigns, and fake news stories that have swirled since day one of his presidency, recent polling suggests that President Trump’s approval rating with the American people is on the rise, with him getting especially high marks on his handling of the economy.

That Trump has weathered the impeachment storm is an inconvenient truth that very few mainstream media journalists care to acknowledge. But during a Wednesday segment on Fox News shortly after Trump was acquitted on both impeachment articles, not even Chris Wallace could deny that the President is in better shape now politically than he was when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced the launch of the House’s impeachment inquiry in September:

“As far as the political impact, I think you’d have to say that Donald Trump is better off now than he was when the impeachment process began,” Wallace said.

“He’s had a number of bipartisan successes on trade deals, the economy is rolling along. The Gallup poll just came out. It’s the highest he’s had in this presidency, 49 percent,” he added, lamenting that the country remains “50-50, bitterly divided.”

And beyond the signing of the USMCA, the rise in approval numbers, the Iowa Democratic caucus debacle, and Trump’s acquittal, today’s blockbuster jobs numbers report will only add to Trump’s post-acquittal good news – all of which has Democrats fretting in a big way.

The icing on the cake for Trump is the fact that Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is ready to get back to the business of judicial confirmations, which has the added benefit of shoring up Trump’s base of Republican voters.

To be sure, there’s still a long time to go between now and November, but for a man who has been under a constant barrage from Democrats, Never Trumpers, and their media allies with no end in sight, to be in such a good political shape in the aftermath is pretty remarkable.

It’s no wonder Trump took a few victory laps Thursday.
